In the Float Pool, you will work with diverse populations of patients innumerousunits, departments and/or locations while learning from many of our best caregivers.As a Patient Companion, you will helpfacilitateCleveland Clinic's mission by providing compassionate and top-quality care. In this role, you willassistRNs, physicians,dietitiansand other staff in coordinating and fulfilling treatment plans. A caregiver in this position worksnights from 6:45AM – 7:15PM, including every other weekendand 2 holidays per year. A caregiver who excels in this role will: Assistwith direct and indirect patient care for one to two patients, such as rooming, vital signs,weightand pulse oximetry.If assigned to a closed unit, provide constant observation only for safety for three to four patients. Assure patient safety by ensuring that catheters,tubesor other medical equipment have not been removed or disconnected. Accompany and assist patients at all times, including transport, tests,transfersandambulation. Collect patient specimens for laboratory testing. Identifyand report changes in patient status to an RN or physician. Follow protocols andinitiateCPR and other emergency measures asrequired. Acknowledge patient concerns and needs and notifyappropriate staffforassistance. Complete all documentation and provide hand-off communication to caregivers responsible for the patient. . Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: HighSchoolDiploma or GED Completion of a hospital-based patient companion training program OR equivalent experience OR enrollment at an accredited school of nursing and completion of a nursing fundamentals course or completion of a hospital-based NA/PC orientation Knowledge and understanding of basic patient care activities, such as basic hygiene, skincareand vital signs Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)or American Red Cross-If you do not hold this certification, you must obtain it within three months of hire Physical Requirements: Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking. Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work. Personal Protective Equipment: Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
