Job Description - Nurse 1 (Registered Nurse) (2600048K) Rehabilitation & Correction – Pickaway Correctional Institution Location: Pickaway Correctional Institute, 11781 State Route 762, Orient, 43146 Compensation: $92,000 Schedule: Full‑time Union: 1199 Primary Job Skill: Nursing What You’ll Do Administers medication (e.g., oral, intramuscular and intravenous) and monitors patient medication compliance Performs treatments and assists with nurse’s sick call Assists with doctor’s sick call Assists with nursing management of chronic care clinics Responds to emergencies providing emergency care and cardiopulmonary resuscitation Performs subjective and objective assessment of patients Collects vital signs and documents all findings in a timely manner Collects urine and/or other bodily fluid specimens Prepares patients for release or transfer to other facilities (e.g., intrasystem or out to court) by reviewing patient care and transfer summaries Ensures discharge medication orders are completed and forward to pharmacy services Participates in work‑related training and institutional training exercises Provides assistance to other healthcare staff Investigates and documents problem areas or areas of concern Reviews shift report from preceding shift(s) Assists physicians with medical procedures Assumes duties of other nurses during absences Counsels and provides education to patients regarding healthcare maintenance and prevention of disease Participates in quality assurance activities Provides training and work direction to new nurses, agency nurses, licensed practical nurses, and/or hospital aides Serves as a resource person for other healthcare and security staff regarding healthcare matters Provides orientation and training for new healthcare personnel at the direction of the Nursing Supervisor Serves as the lead clinical authority on site in the absence of the HCA, QIC, medical director and/or advanced level provider staff Participates in group programming Participates in health and wellness initiatives Performs administrative duties as indicated Schedules multidisciplinary team meetings Assumes the duties of shift charge as assigned by the HCA, making shift work assignments and adjustments as necessary Performs or assists with inventory and ordering of medical supplies Assists ancillary staff as needed to ensure patient care needs are met Qualifications Current licensure as a registered professional nurse in the state of Ohio, issued by the Board of Nursing per Section 4723.03 of the Ohio Revised Code Proficiency in Nursing, Urgent and Emergency Care, Basic Medical Procedures, Medical Charting, Direct Support/Direct Care, Problem Solving, Critical Thinking, Decision Making, Teamwork, Cultural Awareness Benefits Medical Coverage Free Dental, Vision, and Basic Life Insurance premiums after completion of eligibility period Paid time off, including vacation, personal, sick leave and 11 paid holidays per year Childbirth, Adoption, and Foster Care leave Education and Development Opportunities (Employee Development Funds, Public Service Loan Forgiveness, and more) Additional Information Ohio has joined the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC), which went into effect January 1, 2023. The NLC allows an RN to hold one multistate license (MSL) in their primary state of residence while practicing virtually or over state lines in 37 other compact states across the country. DRC is a “qualifying employer” for purposes of the federal Public Service Student Loan Forgiveness program. All final applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis to test for illegal drug use prior to appointments. Testing will also be performed for the presence of marijuana. A positive test shall result in the applicant not being offered employment unless medical documentation of legally prescribed medications or a recommendation for medical marijuana is provided. The final applicant selected will be required to undergo a criminal background check. The organization will assess prior convictions before excluding an applicant from consideration.
