RN - REGISTERED NURSE- HYBRID OR

Registered Nurse (RN) Position

The Aultman Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional nurse that provides direct, primary nursing care to patients/residents. The RN delegates and coordinates patient care, based upon a documented assessment of the patient#s/resident#s needs. The RN supervises the care provided by individuals such as licensed practical nurses, patient care technicians/state tested nursing assistants/nurse aides, medical assistants, and etc., if applicable.

The Hybrid OR is located in the Bedford building on the second floor. The Hybrid OR provides care for all adult cardiac and vascular patients greater than or equal to twenty-one years of age. The Hybrid OR is staffed for elective surgery Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM. A surgical team is available (within 30 minutes) at other times to perform non-elective cases. Additional rooms can be opened on afternoon, midnights, weekends and holidays to accommodate emergency cases.

Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred. Current, active licensure as a Registered Nurse through the Ohio Board of Nursing. Obtain and maintain current American Heart Association (AHA) training in Basic Life Support (BLS) utilizing Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) is required. Certification preferred for RNs meeting applicable certification eligibility requirements. Membership in professional nursing organization preferred.

Department Qualifications

2 years prior experience in operating room, invasive heart lab, interventional radiology, or critical care environment preferred. Must fulfill the role of circulator, scrub nurse, and IV sedation nurse. Certification preferred for those meeting AORN eligibility requirements.

Responsibilities

RN applies the nursing process of assessment, planning interventions, accurately implements and/or delegates patient care, evaluates that care, and accurately communicates patient information in a timely manner. RN is a patient/resident advocate in conjunction with the other members of the healthcare team and fosters patient safety, comfort and satisfaction. Attains knowledge and competency that reflects current nursing practice. Demonstrates quality and effectiveness of nursing practice. Adhere to professional standards and guidelines, including ethical actions, relevant statutes, rules and regulations, during nursing practice. Collaborates with patient, family, and others in the conduct of nursing practice. Exhibits High Reliability Organization (HRO) tools and tones. Provides leadership in the professional practice setting and contributes to the professional development of peers, colleagues and students. Integrates research findings into practice. Responsible for timely review of emails, department communications and applicable learning assignments and completion as applicable.

Collects comprehensive data pertinent to the patient#s health or the situation prior to the procedure (i.e. lab work, imagines, consent, etc.). Analyzes the assessment data to determine the diagnosis or issue. Identifies expected outcomes for a plan individualized to the patient or the situation. Develops a plan that prescribes strategies and alternatives to attain expected outcomes. Implements the identified plan, coordinates care delivery, and employs strategies to promote health and a safe environment. Evaluates progress toward attainment of outcomes. Systematically enhances the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice. Attains knowledge and competency that reflects current nursing practice. Evaluates one#s own nursing practice in relation to professional standards and guidelines, relevant statutes, rules, and regulations. Provides leadership in the professional practice setting and the profession. Assists the physicians or advanced practice providers during invasive imaging and treatment procedures. Has knowledge of supplies and equipment used in the Hybrid OR and CVOR. Dispenses appropriate preparations to patients as indicated by departmental protocol and/or physician order. Maintains proper sterile techniques for procedures and table preparation. Consistently practices aseptic techniques and strictly obeys isolation and infection control procedures. Cleans and disinfects equipment after every patient use. Straightens, cleans, and disinfects the equipment and room after every patient use to meet infection control standards, and makes sure the room is restaged and resupplied prior to leaving a shift to enhance efficiencies in processes of patient throughput and supply ordering and stocking. Must demonstrate reliability when on-call, back up call, or standby and must maintain appropriate proximity and availability to the hospital and department; must report to work within defined time frame to support and perform duties related to cases that are urgent, emergent, or necessary outside of normal departmental posted business hours. Follows all current policies and procedures to maintain a safe working environment for patients, other team members, and oneself. Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, and participating in professional organizations. Teaches and orients new staff members.

Working Conditions

Meal and break times are coordinated with other staff members to maintain adequate coverage. Shifts are scheduled or changed due to the staffing needs of the unit/department based upon volume and acuity. Work weekends and holidays as assigned or as applicable based on department needs. Cross training depending upon department needs.

7:00am # 3:30/4:30/5:30pm M-F or hours as required by the job. On call afternoons, weekends, holidays, and off-shifts (30-minute response time). Subject to frequent interruptions and changes in priority of duties throughout the day. Hazardous Exposure Category Category I - Includes tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues. All procedures or other job-related tasks that involve an inherent potential for spills or splashes of, or mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids or tissues are Category I tasks. Use of appropriate protective measures is required for every employee engaged in Category I tasks.
