Assistant Facility Maintenance SupervisorSeattle Center is a 74-acre civic, arts, and cultural gathering place in the heart of Seattle and home to more than 30 partner organizations. As a department of the City of Seattle and anchor of the Uptown Arts and Cultural District, Seattle Center serves residents from across the Puget Sound region alongside visitors from around the world.In partnership with Friends of Waterfront Park, Seattle Center provides operations, maintenance, and public safety services for Waterfront Park, while Friends leads park experience, programming, and stewardship along Seattle's downtown waterfront.We are seeking a qualified professional for the position of Assistant Facility Maintenance Supervisor. This position has direct supervision of Trades Crew Chiefs and other personnel in the Technical Facilities Maintenance (TFM) division; providing supervisory oversight to the Trades, Laborers, Landscaping, Janitors groups as well as Administrative Support functions. This position jointly plans, guides, directs and supervises the daily operations and long-range planning for over 50 regular and 85 intermittent employees who provide support to building and grounds maintenance for a 74-acre campus with 15 different facilities. This work includes support for the routine/specialized/emergency maintenance of the buildings, and support for events that transpire in the buildings and on the grounds. This position develops processes and procedures to efficiently accomplish the work of these work units and ensure operational efficiency. As the second-in-command to the TFM Manager, you will serve as a strategic and hands-on leader. You will jointly plan and direct daily operations, drive continuous process improvement, and oversee multi-functional teams ranging from Crew Chiefs to administrative and landscaping staff.Job ResponsibilitiesHere is more of what you will be doing:Event & Facility Operations : Directs day-to-day facility and grounds maintenance, guaranteeing secure, seamless support for Seattle Center festivals and gatherings. Partners with project managers to drive campus redevelopment initiatives.Leadership & Labor Relations : Leads a team of 50 full-time and 85 intermittent staff. Supervises three Crew Chiefs, directly overseeing four distinct maintenance operations. Navigates Collective Bargaining Agreements and fosters healthy relationships with Labor Unions.Financial & Administrative Management : Manages department budgets to meet specific targets. Oversees comprehensive billing—including fire alarms, HVAC, and utility work orders—while resolving customer concerns and negotiating resolutions.Strategic Planning & Vendor Oversight : Sets and tracks maintenance service levels for the Campus, Armory, and McCaw Hall. Administers vendor contracts, manages the Equipment Asset Management (EAM) system, and directs the TFM recycling and waste reduction program.Staffing & Compliance : Coordinates the hiring, training, performance management, and scheduling of intermittent and regular staff using the ShiftBoard system. Monitors compliance for all required TFM certifications.QualificationsMinimum Qualifications :Six years of facilities operations and/or operational maintenance experience, including at least two years as a lead worker or supervisor in the area of construction, remodeling, or structural maintenance of buildings or electrical or mechanical systems; or in physical plant engineering which includes the operation or maintenance of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and/or refrigeration systems.Substitution: College level education in civil, construction, electrical, industrial, mechanical, physical plant, or general engineering, or a related field, may be substituted for the operations experience (but not for the lead experience) on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of three years.Licensing and Other RequirementsValid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility required.You will be successful in this role if you excel in the following areas:Leadership & Strategic VisionStrategic Execution: Balances long-term vision with hands-on planning to consistently achieve project goals and stay within budget.Team Leadership: Highly collaborative, capable of leading cross-functional teams, managing unionized staff, and navigating Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs).Employee Relations: Resolves personnel concerns effectively, conducts disciplinary processes, and maintains strict confidentiality.Operations & Facility ManagementFacility Expertise: Possesses relevant facility management or building maintenance certifications.Asset & Waste Management: Experienced with Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) or similar work order systems, with a strong commitment to maximizing recycling and minimizing waste.Safety First: Proven ability to develop, implement, and oversee safety-focused work environments and projects.Communication & Customer ServiceStakeholder Relations: Builds and maintains excellent relationships with internal staff, clients, patrons, and the general public.Communication: Highly effective written and verbal communicator with strong, task-driven administrative skills and a customer-service orientation.Tech Savviness: Proficient in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and customized software applications.Work Environment/ConditionsThis position offers flexibility of a hybrid work schedule. Employees will be expected to be in-office three times a week. Individual schedules will be based on agreement between the employee and their supervisor.Additional InformationThe full pay range for this step-progression position is $57.31 - $66.75 per hour. New employees begin at Step 1 of the pay progression, which is $57.31 hourly. Current City employees' starting rate of pay will be based on Personnel Rules regarding promotions.This posting will be open until filled.
