Oakley Street • Flint, MI 48503 REPORTS TO: LEAD SIGN SHOP SUPERVISORGeneral SummaryUnder general direction of the Director of Engineering, Traffic Engineering Manager and Lead Sign Shop Supervisor, the incumbent shall be responsible for assisting all signal electricians/ buildings and grounds personnel engaged in construction and maintenance of electrically activated traffic control devices, road commission facilities, the construction, installation, modification, maintenance and repairs of electrical devices throughout Genesee County. Work provides creditability, sound judgment and accuracy.Typical Job Duties1. Participate in the construction, installation, modification, maintenance and repair of signal signs/devices, systems, facilities and related electronic control devices by interpreting blueprints, manufacturers' specifications, written and verbal instructions. 2. Plan and schedule work to ensure proper distribution of assignments and adequate staffing, space and facilities for subsequent performance of duties. 3. Assist in the establishment of preventive maintenance programs for electrical systems, facilities and signal signs devices. 4. Frequently drives to work areas to review work, advises and assist employees and determine if manpower, materials and supplies are being properly utilized. 5. Other duties assigned by supervisor.Essential Job FunctionsMust possess: Comprehensive knowledge of terminology, procedures and equipment. Comprehensive knowledge of business mathematics and business English. Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office. Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written directions. Ability to make sound decisions and judgment. Ability to operate a personal computer. Ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships.Education and ExperienceMust possess High School Diploma/GED and four (4) years of formal technical training. Knowledge of principles of electricity and electrical designs. Journeyman Electrician License required with experience in installation, repair and maintenance of electrical systems, equipment and fixtures from blueprints, schematics and sketches experience. Candidates should possess leadership ability along with good communication skills both written and oral. Class A CDL with "N" endorsement required. All Employees who are hired into one of the above-referenced classifications within the bargaining unit who do not possess a CDL with "N" endorsement when hired shall have six (6) months from the date of hire to obtain such license. Employees who do not obtain a CDL with "N" endorsement within such six (6) period shall be terminated.Language SkillsHave the ability to read and comprehend instructions, process correspondence and write memorandums.
