The ideal candidate for Administrative Assistant I is a dynamic, detail-oriented individual who is eager to contribute to a vibrant and innovative team. This position is for someone who seeks to provide excellent service through efficient administration, with an emphasis on teamwork, integrity, and effective communication in support of the City of Brownsville’s mission.

The Administrative Assistant I will provide essential clerical support to department or division staff. This includes tasks such as file management, responding to public inquiries, mail distribution, document preparation, and data entry. This position follows established procedures but also exercises some autonomy in deciding the best approach to completing tasks.

KEY FUNCTIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

· Answers and redirects phone calls.

· Creates, revises, and edits correspondence and documents such as memos, letters, invoices, and reports.

· Performs data entry functions.

· Orders supplies and maintains departmental inventory.

· Receives and redistributes incoming mail.

· Issues permits and licenses.

· Responds to customer inquiries and requests.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

· High School Diploma or GED required. Some college is preferred.

· Valid Texas Driver’s License.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:

· Requires a minimum of 3 months of work-related experience.

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT:

· Spanish required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT:

· Ability to exert up to 35-50 lbs. of force occasionally to lift, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.

· Requires sedentary work that involves routine keyboard operations and may involve walking or standing occasionally.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

· All employees must successfully pass a Drug & Alcohol examination and a Background Check.
