2027 Investment Management Summer Analyst Program - Strategic Functions (New York)

General Description

The Investment Management Summer Analyst Program is a 10-week program beginning in June 2027. The program consists of one week of training followed by nine weeks working within a specific Investment Management team. Across all teams, the curriculum is designed to equip Summer Analysts with the foundational skills needed to succeed in Investment Management. Throughout the program, Summer Analysts experience the culture and collaborative environment of Morgan Stanley while performing work similar to that of a Full-Time Analyst.

Participants will be placed on one of several teams within Strategic Functions to gain hands-on experience while supporting key initiatives across the business. While candidates apply broadly to the Investment Management Summer Analyst Program - Strategic Functions, team placements will be determined during the application and interview process based on business need, candidates' individual interests, and matches between skillsets and roles.

Teams within Strategic Functions include IM Strategy, Product Development, ETFs, Office of the COO, and Global Risk & Analysis.

About the Teams

IM Strategy

The Investment Management Strategy & Corporate Development team drives the long-term growth and strategic direction of the business. The team conducts market and competitor analysis, evaluates growth opportunities, and supports strategic initiatives across the division. Analysts gain exposure to executive-level decision-making, business planning, and firmwide strategic priorities.

Product Development

The Product Development team partners with investment, distribution, and business teams to develop and launch investment products across public and private markets. The team manages products throughout their lifecycle, from concept development and approval through launch and ongoing support, while conducting market research and competitive analysis to identify new opportunities. Analysts gain exposure to product strategy, investment solutions, and cross-functional project execution across a broad range of asset classes.

ETFs

The ETF team supports the development, management, and growth of Morgan Stanley Investment Management's exchange-traded fund platform. The team works closely with portfolio managers, product development, capital markets, distribution, and operations partners to support product launches, market analysis, and strategic initiatives. Analysts gain exposure to investment products, financial markets, industry trends, and the rapidly evolving ETF landscape.

Office of the COO

The Office of the COO supports the leadership team responsible for the day-to-day operations of Investment Management. Working closely with the Chief of Staff team, analysts help drive strategic initiatives, enhance organizational effectiveness, and support senior management priorities. Roles in this team offer broad exposure to business management and operational leadership.

Global Risk & Analysis

The Global Risk & Analysis team provides independent risk oversight and analytical support across Investment Management portfolios and products. The team monitors market, credit, liquidity, and portfolio risks while helping investment teams make informed decisions. Analysts gain exposure to financial markets, risk management practices, and data-driven investment analysis.

Primary Responsibilities

Roles within the Strategic Functions vary, but responsibilities may include:

• Collaborate with investment teams and business partners to support key business initiatives and strategic projects.
• Conduct market, industry, and competitor research to identify trends, opportunities, and developments impacting the asset management industry.
• Analyze data and develop presentations, reports, and materials to support business planning, decision-making, and project execution.
• Support strategic initiatives, business management activities, product launches, risk analyses, and operational projects across Investment Management.
• Assist with cross-functional projects and collaborate with stakeholders to drive the execution of key business priorities.
• Develop analytical, research, presentation, project management, and communication skills through hands-on experience and mentorship.

Job Requirements

• Pursuing a Bachelor's degree with an expected graduation date between December 2027 and June 2028
• Exceptional academic performance and strong verbal and written communication skills
• Strong team player with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and functions
• Self-starter with the ability to work independently and take initiative
• Highly motivated, results-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint

Compensation

Expected base pay for this role is $43.27 per hour at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only one component of the total compensation package, which may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short- and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley-sponsored benefit programs.
