Distribution Entry-Level Line Apprentice - Florida (Multiple Locations)

Line Apprentice The Line Apprentice position supports the operations process by learning a working knowledge of computer systems, tools, equipment, and the retirement of the distribution system. Employees learn day‑to‑day operations, specifications, and safety procedures required to maintain services for existing and new customers. Responsibilities Construct, maintain, and repair electrical distribution systems, including overhead and underground lines. Install and repair electrical equipment such as street lighting, load control devices, transformers, capacitors, regulators, meters, and safe lights. Set poles, pull cable, set transformers, and perform all tasks dictated by engineering specifications. Use test equipment (e.g., voltage and amp meters) to measure performance and perform preventative maintenance. Respond to trouble calls when equipment fails or electrical service is interrupted. Working Conditions Shift work, overtime, weekend work, and frequent travel. Work environment includes indoor and outdoor duties, varying heat and cold, night work, and inclement weather. Potential exposure to confined spaces (manholes, vaults, etc.) and call‑out duty on second or third shift schedules. Field mobility: work at various locations after onboarding; employees must live within a reasonable daily commute of their assigned work location. Relocation at own expense. Basic Qualifications High school diploma or GED. Valid driver’s license. Preferred Qualifications Military experience. Certificate from a Lineman’s Training School or current enrollment in a Lineman Training Program. Experience in utility, electrical, telephone, cable TV, plumbing, tree trimming, building/construction, or cell tower work. Experience with law enforcement, fire department, farming, or fence building. Experience responding to natural disasters or emergency situations such as hurricanes, tornadoes, wind events, high water, fires, or auto accidents. Physical and Job‑Specific Requirements Successfully complete the Virtual Assessment for Lineworkers (VAL) and the Physical Abilities Test (PAT). Obtain DOT certification and respirator clearance. Obtain a valid ClassA commercial driver’s license (CDL) in the hiring state within one year of hire. Pass a successful background check and drug screen. Stand 5–6 hours, sit 2–3 hours, move frequently, lift or pull up to 75lbs, climb or use equipment to reach various heights, and perform repetitive bending or squatting. Differentiate colors (color vision) and possess manual dexterity for small hand tools. Maintain a residency within 60 minutes of the base work location.
