Educational Program
The goal of the Pediatric Neuroradiology Fellowship program is to train fellows in all aspects of pediatric neuroradiology. Our faculty are board certified radiologists subspecialized in pediatric neuroradiology and are dedicated to excellence in clinical neuroradiology, education, and research. The pediatric neuroradiology fellowship provides extensive experience in all neuroimaging modalities, including CT, MRI, PET, SPECT, and advanced neuroimaging techniques, such as perfusion, DTI, MR spectroscopy, and fMRI. Our neuroradiologists lead multiple interdisciplinary conferences that the fellows can participate in. The fellowship can be tailored to provide candidates greater exposure in any areas of subspecialized interest they may have. Our fellows learn the art of targeted protocoling, keeping in mind sedation and contrast administration indications, use of radiation, and appropriateness of rapid and high-resolution MR imaging techniques. Our team of imaging technologists, physicists, medical imaging nurses, anesthesiologists, sedation specialists, and child-life experts are valuable partners in providing safe neuroimaging examinations of the highest quality. There are numerous opportunities and support for research projects and academic endeavors made possible by the close working relationship with neuroscientists throughout CHOA, Emory University, and the Georgia Institute of Technology.
Fellows receive one half-day of academic time per week. An academic stipend is available to all fellows. Each fellow must complete at least one academic project during the course of their fellowship training and is expected to submit their work to scientific society meetings such as the American Society of Pediatric Neuroradiology (ASPNR), American Society of Neuroradiology (ASNR), and the Radiologic Society of North America (RSNA), among others.
Supervision
- The pediatric neuroradiology fellow will be under the supervision of the pediatric neuroradiology faculty, receive hands on training, follow a formal educational curriculum, engage in academic activities, and have the opportunity to work independently. All diagnostic radiology reports produced by the fellow will be finalized by the supervising neuroradiology attending.
- The pediatric neuroradiology fellow's progress will be evaluated on a regular basis by the Fellowship Program Director.
- The Professional Staff has overall responsibility for the quality of professional services provided to patients within Children's through the normal channels of the Medical Executive Committee and Peer Review.
