Data Science Manager

THE POSITIONOur roster has an opening with your name on itWe are looking for a Data Science Manager for our Sports Modeling & Innovation team to tackle our most challenging sports modeling problems. Throughout the lifecycle of a model, from data collection through results, you will create predictive models of sports to build tools and dashboards, price markets, and drive actionable insights across FanDuel Group. You will be working closely with the product and risk and trading teams, modeling player performance, team performance, and game outcomes among other challenges. This role will also manage and develop other data scientists. You will promote effective communication of model outputs and contribute to a collaborative code environment.In addition to the specific responsibilities outlined above, employees may be required to perform other such duties as assigned by the Company. This ensures operational flexibility and allows the Company to meet evolving business needs.THE GAME PLANEveryone on our team has a part to playDevelop, iterate, and take to production machine learning models to predict sports outcomes and solve problemsIterate and improve on betting product range to ensure market leading offeringContinuous improvement in pricing techniques - both at an individual level and working with trading teams to optimize predictive and derivative model pricingManage a group of Data Scientists to develop production-ready models and solve company-wide challengesChoose appropriate tools, systems and models to solve large data problemsTroubleshoot and resolve coding and modeling problems presented by othersProactively seek opportunities or problems to be analyzedPut together project plans for the Data Science team to followPresent to senior leaders confidently and with impactConstruct models, analyses and solutions in response to a question or problem posed by a stakeholder or colleagueManage the data preparation process from collection through cleaningBuild robust predictive models, showing capabilities of feature and model selectionContribute to a production code environmentWork with decision-makers across the company to understand their goals, identify opportunities to use data to develop new insights and improve business resultsCreate dashboards and data visualizations for analysis and communicationIdentify, grow and develop top talent within the Data Science organizationLead regular forums within or across teams to ensure key decisions and conclusions are disseminated and understoodMake significant contributions to, sets agenda for and helps steer large group meetingsDetermine inefficiencies in ways of working and seeks to solve themTHE STATSWhat we're looking for in our next teammateMinimum of 5 years’ of industry experience in data science, analytics or engineering preferredBachelor's Degree in a highly numerate major (Math, Stats, Econ, etc.) or relevant experience in data science preferredExperience managing or mentoring other data scientists or analystsStrong analytical and quantitative skills, with high proficiency in Python or R, and SQL (or coding language of choice)Strong understanding and application of Bayesian statisticsExpert in building and using models to help create production level products and toolsProficient with command line tools and GitHubObject-oriented design and coding skillsStrong verbal and written communication skills - present findings and analysis to senior management, being totally accountable for the entire agenda of the projects ownedHelp the stakeholders in understanding the business KPIsBring efficiency and automation in the data infrastructureAbility to work across teams, locations and time zonesWilling to work nontraditional hours when applicableInterest or experience in Sports Gaming and/or Fantasy SportsABOUT FANDUELFanDuel Group is the premier mobile gaming company in the United States and Canada. This role may offer the following benefits: medical, vision, and dental insurance; life insurance; disability insurance; a 401(k) matching program; among other employee benefits. This role may also be eligible for short-term or long-term incentive compensation, including, but not limited to, cash bonuses and stock program participation.
