Maintenance Worker

Street Maintenance Temporary PositionPerforms a variety of semi-skilled and skilled work in the street maintenance department with the City. This position is temporary. If selected for the position in Street Maintenance, employment will be set up with a temporary staffing agency the City is contracted with for 2026/2027. This position is a pipeline to full-time employment with the City of Kingsport if full-time positions become available. The City of Kingsport does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, creed, ethnicity, national origin, sex, disability, age, status as a protected veteran, or any other class protected by Federal or State laws and regulations.Essential FunctionsPerforms a variety of semi-skilled and skilled maintenance tasks using appropriate hand and power tools (shovels, rakes, drills, blowers, etc.);Maintains City areas (this could include walkways, streets, potholes, snow and ice removal, litter pick-up, etc.);Operates non-CDL City-owned vehicles and equipment and responsibly comply with all traffic laws, safety regulations, and city policies;Operates small equipment such as an asphalt roller;Ensures all tasks are completed in a safe and efficient manner;Performs minor maintenance/repairs to equipment and vehicles used;Keeps appropriate records of the tasks performed;Performs other duties as assigned.QualificationsAbility to work independently:Knowledge of the appropriate skilled trades associated with the assigned department;Knowledge in using hand and power tools in construction and maintenance work;Knowledge of methods and practices used in performing skilled building maintenance;Knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and repair of relevant equipment;Knowledge of the elements of construction technology as they relate to the assigned construction, maintenance, and repair activities;Skill in performing manual work requiring periods of extensive physical exertion and potential exposure to adverse weather conditions;Skill in reading schematics and following written instructions;Skill in communicating effectively orally and in writing, including tactful and courteous communications with the public;Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers, other city personnel, and the public.Education and ExperienceHigh School graduate or GED equivalent preferred;Valid driver's license;BenefitsThe City of Kingsport does not currently offer any benefits for Part-Time, Seasonal, or Temporary Employess.
