The UT MD Anderson offers an opportunity for an Advanced Practice Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA) to support GU Medical Oncology. The department is focused on delivering specialized oncology care across ambulatory and hospital settings, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to address the complex needs of patients with cancer. The Advanced Practice Nurse or Physician Assistant plays a critical role in ensuring comprehensive, patient-centered care within service-specific environments tailored to specialized cancer populations.

The ideal candidate for the Advanced Practice Nurse or Physician Assistant role will have strong education and training aligned with advanced nursing practice, experience in oncology or complex clinical environments, and appropriate licensure in accordance with the Texas Nurse Practice Act, with a preference for candidates who demonstrate expertise in clinical assessment, interdisciplinary collaboration, and patient education. • Defined-benefit pension through the Teachers Retirement System, voluntary retirement plans, and employer-paid life and reduced salary protection programs. The shift for this position is 4/10 hour shift, alternate weekends, and holiday coverage. Responsibilities Clinical Assessment & Patient Care
• Conduct comprehensive health assessments including medical, family, and social history
• Perform physical examinations and psychosocial assessments
• Monitor laboratory, radiographic, and procedural data
• Deliver care to oncology patients in ambulatory and hospital settings including special care units, operating room, and diagnostic and treatment centers Care Coordination & Management
• Coordinate medical care across interdisciplinary teams including physicians, nurses, social workers, dietitians, and clergy
• Triage patient needs and prioritize care appropriately
• Manage symptoms, toxicities, and health abnormalities related to disease or treatment
• Evaluate and modify care plans based on patient response and clinical findings Autonomous Practice & Collaboration
• Practice autonomously in accordance with the Texas Nurse Practice Act
• Collaborate with healthcare teams to ensure effective care delivery
• Serve as a clinical resource to colleagues and allied personnel
• Provide consultation regarding plan of care, follow-up, and evaluation Patient Education & Support
• Educate patients and families on diagnosis, treatment, and symptom management
• Provide counseling focused on health promotion and disease prevention
• Support patients receiving surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, biotherapy, and treatments for related conditions Professional Development
• Participate in continuing education programs
• Review clinical literature related to oncology and nursing practice
• Engage in professional organizations
• Communicate advancements in nursing practice and healthcare APRN or Physician Assistant EDUCATION:
Required:
Advanced Practice Registered Nurse
Master's Degree in Nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice. May be waived for applicants who obtained recognition as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse from the Texas State Board of Nursing prior to 1/1/2003.
Graduate education and related Texas Board of Nursing authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population. Physician Assistant
Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant (PA) program by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA), except for Physician Assistants who graduated from a PA program prior to 2013.
EXPERIENCE:
Preferred: At least 1 year of Oncology experience as an Advanced Practice Provider. LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION:

Written authorization from the Texas Board of Nursing to function as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN or ACNP or ACNPC or ACAGNP or AGACNP or ACNPC-AG or AGACNP or AGNP or ACPNP or ANP or AGNP or AGPCNP or FNP or GNP or PNP or PMHNP or WHNP or APNP). Related authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population.
Basic Life Support (BLS). Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) If working in the following departments: Pediatric - Patient Care (113100).
MAY BE REQUIRED: Authorization for limited prescriptive authority by the Texas Board of Nursing. Physician Assistant
All of the following:
PA certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants.
Licensed by the Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners.
MAY BE REQUIRED: Eligible to be granted limited prescriptive authority by the State of Texas.
Must meet the American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) , ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) if working in one of following department: Pediatrics - Patient Care (113100).
