Position: Pediatric Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant - Emergency Medicine Talent Area: Advanced Practice Providers Full/Part Time: Full time Location: Houston, TX, US Department: WC Advanced Practice Providers Shift: 7p-7a Nights Job ID: 424630 We are searching for a Physician Assistant or a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner who is motivated to work in an exciting pediatric setting! In this position, you will practice in an advanced role to provide developmentally appropriate and age‑appropriate health maintenance for well children, episodic care for ill children, and comprehensive care for children with chronic conditions. The NP or PA works under a delineation of clinical privileges and will work collaboratively with other members of the health care team. Practice under established guidelines and clinical protocols, the APP assumes independent and interdependent responsibilities in the assessment, diagnosis and initiation of treatment and procedures. Job duties are performed in a manner that is developmentally appropriate for the ages of patients served. As an advanced practice provider, the NP or PA is responsible for education, research, consultation, and evaluation of clinical practice at various levels. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree required. Certified Physician Assistant by the Texas Medical Board (PA role). Master’s degree in nursing required. RN license from the Texas Board of Nursing or Nursing Licensure Compact required. Registered Nurse credentials (FNP, NNP, PNP-BC, WHNP-BC, CPNP-AC, AG-ACNP) from Texas Board of Nursing required. Pediatric Emergency Medicine experience strongly preferred. Responsibilities Provide medical services within the education and training of the Physician Assistant and the scope of practice and delegation of the supervising physician. Obtain a comprehensive health, developmental, and family history on patients and document appropriately in the patient’s medical record. Differentiate between normal and abnormal findings and document them accurately. Prescribe or administer medications as delegated by the supervising physician and document them in medical records. Administer appropriate vaccines as observed by physicians and documented in medical records. Order diagnostic tests consistent with differential diagnoses derived from gathered data. Foster collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to improve health care. Establish a relationship with the patient/family characterized by mutual respect, empathy, and collaboration. Daily use advanced practice knowledge and skills to systematically collect and evaluate health assessment data and manage patients’ caseload. Assess the patient’s physical status through the physical examination and document findings. Perform or recommend age‑appropriate health screening procedures. Provide health maintenance and health promotion for children of all ages. Perform and evaluate diagnostic procedures and laboratory tests. Analyze multiple sources of data and formulate a differential diagnosis in collaboration with physicians. Follow established delegation protocols to manage specific patient problems and formulate a plan of care. Accurately evaluate patient’s responses to interventions and modify the plan of care. Present and document the data, impression, and plan of care on all patients. Demonstrate effective communication skills and work to eliminate communication barriers. Collaborate effectively with other members of the health care disciplines. Utilize effective interviewing skills to elicit information from patients and/or family and collaborate with them in developing the care plan. Request consultation and/or initiate referral for specialized care as appropriate; communicate comprehensive assessment, impression, and plan of care to the health care team. Serve as an educational resource for the patient and family, community, and other health care professionals. Apply new knowledge relevant to pediatric nursing to clinical practice. Maintain current professional, managerial, and technical knowledge and skills; read professional literature, attend staff development, and pursue continuing education annually. Participate in department and hospital committees that promote quality nursing care. Demonstrate NP role behaviors consistent with the development of advanced nursing practice. Participate in departmental Quality Improvement program annually. Conduct respiratory fit testing in compliance with occupational health and safety standards.
