Essential Job Duties: The Extension EFNEP Educator is an employee of NC Cooperative Extension, NC State University. Under the supervision of the County Extension Director with guided assistance from the District EFNEP Regional Nutrition Extension Associate (RNEA), the EFNEP Educator delivers nutrition and related subject matter to enrolled participants. and The 4-H program assistant will assist the 4-H Agent in the planning, executing, and evaluating effective and comprehensive 4-H programs that will meet the needs of the county population. The program assistant will support the mission of the 4-H organization, which is to develop youth and adults working with those youth to realize their full potential through participation in research-based, non-formal, hands-on educational experiences. The 4-H program assistant cooperates with the Macon County Extension staff and county leaders in performing a variety of responsibilities. The performance of assigned responsibilities is governed by the philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures of North Carolina Cooperative Extension. The individual in this position will provide assistance for the total 4-H program and will help determine programming needs, planning, marketing, implementing and evaluating youth programs. This position will also be involved in assisting 4-H volunteers, supporting 4-H clubs, and providing opportunities for school based 4-H programs. The EFNEP/4-H Program Assistant will be responsible for two program areas with 50% of the time and work dedicated to 4-H youth programs and 50% of the time and work dedicated to Expanded Food and Nutrition programs in Macon County schools. Primary Function of Organizational Unit North Carolina Cooperative Extension gives our residents easy access to the resources and expertise of NC State University and North Carolina A & T State University. Through educational programs, publications and events, Cooperative Extension delivers unbiased, research-based information to North Carolina citizens. For over 50 years, EFNEP has been helping limited-resource youth and families with children learn to eat healthier meals and snacks, make better use of food dollars and reduce the risk of food-borne illnesses. In collaboration with many organizations through the “Eat Smart, Move More” initiative, NC EFNEP aims to help reduce the rising tide of obesity by teaching youth and families practical skills resulting in changed behaviors to eat smart, move more, and achieve a healthy weight. Duties and Responsibilities: The individual in this position will recruit and enroll adult and school-aged youth participants into the program, make regular teaching visits to participants in group settings, teach basic principles of nutrition and food preparation skills, submit required program records as requested, market the program within the assigned area, recruit volunteers from within the community involving them in leadership roles, collaborate with local Cooperative Extension staff and agencies, and assist with securing program resources. Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) Responsibilities – Approximately 50% The EFNEP Educator receives programmatic guidance from the District EFNEP Regional Nutrition Extension Associate (RNEA) with overall supervision provided by the County Extension Director (CED). The EFNEP Educator and the RNEA work with the Family and Consumer Science Agent, 4-H Agent and/or CED to meet the needs of the county. Renewal of the position is contingent on the availability of funds. Under the programmatic guidance of the RNEA, the EFNEP Educator conducts nutrition education to limited resource adults and youth in group settings. While performing this role the EFNEP Educator: Travels within county, district, and state using a personal vehicle. Personal vehicle is required. Travel will be reimbursed following State guidelines. Develops and maintains a comprehensive understanding of the role of NC Cooperative Extension as an educational agency. Recruits limited resource school-aged youth and families with young children who meet the federal eligibility guidelines for participation in EFNEP. Instructs eligible youth and families in nutrition education using approved curricula and teaching methods. Conduct food demonstrations to adult and youth groups. Facilitates the collection of required data and submits monthly reports to RNEA, EFNEP State office and CED. Maintains confidentiality of program information. Coordinates with collaborating agencies to extend program outreach to eligible families. Establish and maintain partnerships with agencies and organizations serving EFNEP audiences. Participates in lifelong learning and professional development by participating in trainings and other opportunities as designated by the RNEA, County Extension Director, District Extension Director and/or State EFNEP office. A few may require overnight travel. Attends and participates in required EFNEP meetings and trainings within the county and outside of the county, a few may be overnight travel. Enhances program visibility by communicating program impacts to local stakeholders and potential participants. Promotes educational opportunities beyond EFNEP within Cooperative Extension and partnering agencies to program participants. Recruits, trains and utilizes volunteers to assist in program marketing, data collection and program delivery. Recruit, train, manage and reward volunteer leaders who will guide 4-H clubs, assist with the planning and coordination of events and activities, and generally support and promote the 4-H Agent and 4-H program. 2. Help raise funds to help support youth participation in local, district, state and national events and activities. 3. Develop activities that attracts youth and volunteers from all sectors of the county, to assure inclusivity and efficient impact of programs. Evaluate activities to determine individual program and over-all 4-H program effectiveness for reporting and further marketing of the 4-H youth development program. 4. Program Administration: Maintaining accurate records for youth and volunteer leaders and assuring that the program is in compliance with local, state and national regulations – to include but not be limited to the NC State University Programming with Minors regulations and financial management – to include but not be limited to monitoring county 4-H club accounts, charters and IRS compliance. 6. Work with youth Agriculture programs. Additional Responsibilities: Recruit judges for various events. Collaborate with office team members to: coordinate volunteers, track monthly reports, be responsible for event registration and help manage financials. Become proficient with the 4-H Online data program. Create written materials for educational lessons for and with volunteers. Collaborate with colleagues and county marketing staff to produce fliers, emails, videos and other educational pieces. Recruit and orient volunteers for Extension. Interact with volunteers in various indoor and outdoor settings. Create and distribute press releases for events. Maintain records of youth and adult participation. Other Work/Responsibilities: Other duties as assigned. Travel within the county, district and state are required. Minimum Experience/Education: The minimum requirement for employment with the North Carolina Cooperative Extension (NCCE) is a high-school diploma or equivalent.
