Job Description & Requirements Specialty: PCU - Progressive Care Unit Discipline: RN Start Date: ASAP Duration: 13 weeks 24 hours per week Shift: 12 hours, days Employment Type: Travel Registered Nurse (RN) Unit Information The primary patient population consists of cardiovascular and vascular surgery patients, including those undergoing: Open heart surgery (CABG, AVR, MVR, Bentall, TAVR, etc.) Thoracic lung surgery (lobectomy, thoracotomy, etc.) Esophagogastrectomy Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) repair (open and endovascular) Femoral-popliteal bypass Carotid endarterectomies Overflow medical cardiology patients are also cared for, including those with: Heart failure Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA) Chest pain Sepsis Heart block General Information Number of Beds: 40 cardiac surgery stepdown beds Staffing: Approximately 100 total staff members Patient Ratios: 1:5 patients per RN, 1:13 for Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) Equipment: Baxter IV pumps, CADD epidural pumps, various lifts Electronic Medical Record (EMR): Cerner Qualifications Required Skills: Stepdown experience Telemetry experience Preferred Skills: Experience with CV surgery and vascular surgery populations within the last year CVICU experience Typical Procedures Performed Epidural management Chest tube management Tube feeding IV glucagon management Cardiac medication management (phenylephrine, dobutamine, dopamine, milrinone, cardizem, amiodarone, insulin, heparin, nitroglycerin, ketamine) Personality Fit The ideal candidate will be a: Team player Individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment Flexible professional Certifications Required ACLS BLS Floating Areas Float to any stepdown unit (1:5 ratios) or medical-surgical unit (1:6-7 ratios), as well as the emergency room inpatient holding area (1:6). Dress Code Scrub Color/Attire: All navy, white tops with navy bottoms, or all white. Work Schedule No on-call duties required. Candidates must be flexible to work during holidays and complete a minimum of 6 weekend shifts (Saturday/Sunday day/night) within a 6-week scheduling period.
