Provides comprehensive rehabilitation therapy assessment and treatment interventions for adult psychiatric inpatients in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. Plans, develops, and implements individual and group therapy sessions for adult inpatients. Primary responsibilities include: conducting group and individual therapy with patients; maintaining accurate and up-to-date charting; maintaining supplies and organizing inventory, supporting community and donor relations; and supervising interns and volunteers. Provides patient and/or family education regarding independent living skills, including self-care, socialization, leisure and coping skills. Provides specialized clinical groups and interventions including music, drama, art therapy as well as dual diagnosis/substance abuse, pain management.

yesDevelops curriculum, implements, and evaluates the adult inpatient rehabilitation services program. Provides oral and written communication regarding the program.
Formulates Rehabilitations Services patient assessments and treatment plans.
Provides group and/or individual interventions, both verbal and non-verbal, in diverse areas of clinical specialty such as music therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), pain management, dual diagnosis, eating disorders, spirituality, stress management, functional life skills, issues of aging, leisure skills, treatment planning, symptom awareness, gender issues, and community resources, along with discharge planning and patient/family education.
Provides individualized clinical care services for patients who are unable to attend group therapy program because of behavioral difficulties or specialized conditions. Develops and implements behavioral plans for individual patients.
Plans and implements special events and programming for significant religious, national and/or cultural holidays.
Plans, develops for referral to outdoor groups. Organizes and leads movement and physical activities.
Documents in a timely manner pt. assessment, treatment plans and progress notes.
Participates in the development and distribution of patient education materials such as the library of community resources, DBT handouts, pain management packets, dual diagnosis and eating disorders resources packets, and 12-step materials.
Organizes, maintains and oversees the distribution of patient welfare items such as apparel, radios, reading materials, art supplies and other consumables.
Develops hospitals and community referrals for patient volunteer and job placements.

Participates in Rehabilitation Services adult inpatient and/or partial hospitalization program staff meetings as well as assigned performance improvement committee meetings and/or takes force meetings to plan, develop and implement unit protocols and procedures.
Participates in Lean Management activities to include attending daily huddles and monthly leadership rounds
Maintains program inventory and orders supplies and/or equipment for service. Maintains facilities for assigned rehabilitations services areas.

yesTEACHING, TRAINING AND SUPERVISION
Coordinates, develops, implements and evaluates the Rehabilitations Services Clinical Training Programs as LPPHC&C (i.e., Music Therapy Internship). Recruits, selects, and supervises Rehabilitation Services interns and evaluates their performances.
Provides clinical supervision to assigned interns and students.
Participates and contributes to the content of Safety and Security training for residents.

Participates in relevant in-service training seminars and conferences at LPPH and in the community. Attends, develops and/or presents at lectures, conferences and workshops on specialized clinical topics. Provides required professional leave documents. Keeps current with the profession by meeting continuing education requirements for certification registration and/or licensure.
RESEARCH
Participates in the planning, coordinating, implementing and reporting results of Rehabilitation Services research studies as assigned.

- Demonstrates ability to assess individual patients' developmental level, general medical condition, psych-social needs, and capabilities.
- Provides patients with opportunities for expressing their individual thoughts and feelings and provide support as part of patients' therapeutic support system.
- Demonstrates compassion and understanding in order to build a relationship of rapport and trust with patients and their families.
- Ability to communicate pertinent information and concerns, and coordinate goals with medical staff for optimum health outcomes.
- Demonstrates ability to plan and facilitate therapy groups.
- Demonstrates skills in oral and written communication that will allow preparation of medical record documentation, oral presentation, and conference presentations.
- This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.
Rec therapist 3 requires all the above plus the following:
- Experience working with adults in individual and group-based intervention in psychiatric treatment of at least five years in duration.
PREFERRED:
- Experience working with people who have acute/severe mental illness.
- Experience providing evidence-based treatments to psychiatrically acute patients in similar clinical setting.
Rec therapist 3 preferred qualifications include all the above plus the following:
- Experience in mentoring and supervision
- Experience in program development
