Communications Specialist

Cherry Hills Christian School is seeking an exceptional writer, editor, and communicator to serve as a Communications Specialist on our Communications & Marketing team.

This position develops, coordinates, and produces clear, engaging, and timely communications for CHC families and external audiences while helping advance the school's mission and strengthen community engagement.

The Communications Specialist serves as the primary editor and producer of CHC's biweekly all-school newsletter and other key school communications. This individual leads content planning, writing, editing, design, digital production, and publication management while supporting communication campaigns, family engagement initiatives, and creative projects.

The ideal candidate is an organized, collaborative, and proactive communications professional with exceptional writing and editing skills, strong visual judgment, and excellent project management abilities. This individual takes initiative, gathers information proactively, identifies communication needs, and moves projects forward independently while maintaining CHC's mission, voice, and brand standards.

The Communications Specialist reports to the Director of Communications & Marketing and collaborates closely with school leadership, faculty, staff.

Key Responsibilities

Newsletter Management & Production

• Own the end-to-end production of CHC's biweekly all-school newsletter, including planning, content collection, writing, editing, design, testing, scheduling, and distribution.
• Coordinate content with school leaders, faculty, and staff while proactively managing deadlines and follow-up.
• Write, edit, and organize content to ensure communications are accurate, engaging, and aligned with CHC's mission and brand standards.
• Create newsletter graphics and visual assets while maintaining a polished user experience.
• Manage deployment through Mailchimp, including audience management, testing, and performance monitoring.
• Partner with the Director of Communications & Marketing on editorial planning and continuous improvement.
• Manage alternating-week Lower School newsletters.

Writing, Editing & Creative Development

• Write, edit, proofread, and design communications and marketing materials supporting school initiatives, enrollment, advancement, and events.
• Transform source material, notes, and contributor submissions into clear, concise, and audience-focused communications.
• Create and adapt branded graphics and layouts using Canva or comparable design platforms.
• Provide communication support and editorial guidance for school-wide initiatives.
• Identify opportunities to improve clarity, consistency, and effectiveness across communications.
• Maintain consistent voice, messaging, and editorial standards across all communications.

Publications & Print Production

• Design and produce annual publications, event materials, programs, invitations, certificates, and other assigned collateral.
• Coordinate content collection, editing, proofreading, layout development, and production schedules.
• Manage timelines, reviews, and approvals to ensure high-quality final products.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external vendors as needed.

Family Communications & Campaign Support

• Create and distribute timely family communications outside regularly scheduled newsletters.
• Support communication campaigns for school initiatives, events, advancement efforts, and community engagement activities.
• Collaborate with school leaders to determine communication needs and audience strategies.
• Develop landing pages, resource hubs, forms, and other communication tools when appropriate.
• Help ensure families receive timely, relevant, and actionable information through appropriate communication channels.

Audience Management & Communication Systems

• Manage Mailchimp audiences, templates, tags, forms, and communication workflows.
• Create and maintain targeted communication lists using FACTS and other systems.
• Monitor audience quality, troubleshoot delivery issues, and ensure communication accuracy.
• Maintain organized communication systems and use available analytics to improve engagement and effectiveness.

Project Management & Team Collaboration

• Manage multiple communications, publication, and creative projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and maintaining quality standards.
• Establish timelines, coordinate contributors, and proactively communicate project status.
• Collaborate effectively with school leadership, faculty, staff, volunteers, and external partners.
• Participate in Communications & Marketing planning and contribute to workflow and process improvements.
• Demonstrate initiative, flexibility, sound judgment, and a commitment to team success.
• Model the ideal team player traits: humble, hungry, people-smart, positive, and loyal.

Position Details

Reports To: Director of Communications & Marketing

Position Type: Full-Time, Exempt

Hours: 40 hours per week, year-round

Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, 403B

Salary Range: $64,480-$69,000 annually, depending on experience

Qualifications

• Must have a strong and growing relationship with Jesus Christ, evident in both personal and professional life.
• Must agree with the mission, values, and faith statement of Cherry Hills Christian School.
• Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, English, public relations, marketing, or a related field preferred. Equivalent professional experience and demonstrated success in communications, content creation, writing, editing, and project management will also be considered.
• Three or more years of professional experience in communications, journalism, public relations, corporate communications, nonprofit communications, agency work, or a related field.
• Exceptional writing, editing, proofreading, and content organization skills.
• Strong interviewing, information-gathering, and relationship-building abilities.
• Ability to transform incomplete, detailed, or complex information into concise, audience-focused communications.
• Strong visual judgment and experience creating professional communication materials using Canva or a comparable platform.
• Experience managing multiple projects, contributors, deadlines, and approval processes.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and follow-through.
