This role supports a major hospital construction project in North Charleston, SC by providing versatile on-site assistance across a wide range of tasks. You will contribute to steel fabrication activities and general construction operations, helping maintain a safe, organized, and efficient jobsite. The position is hands-on, fast-paced, and ideal for someone with a strong work ethic, a positive attitude, and the ability to follow direction in a dynamic construction environment.

Responsibilities

• Support on-site construction activities for a large hospital project by performing a variety of general labor and basic mechanical tasks as needed.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization across the jobsite, including sweeping, trash removal, and general cleanup of work areas.
• Assist with safety monitoring by helping set up and maintain barriers, tents, and other protective structures to promote a safe working environment.
• Transport materials around the jobsite, ensuring items are moved efficiently and safely to designated locations.
• Use hand and power tools to complete basic construction and mechanical duties under direction from site supervisors.
• Follow instructions from construction leaders and trades personnel, adapting to changing priorities and task assignments throughout the day.
• Work collaboratively with the general contractor and subcontractors, supporting their activities and contributing to smooth project operations.
• Demonstrate flexibility and versatility by taking on a wide range of tasks required on a large, active construction site.
• Adhere to all site safety rules, procedures, and guidelines while performing physical labor in an outdoor construction environment.

Essential Skills

• Experience in construction or general labor environments, with the ability to perform physically demanding tasks throughout the workday.
• Proficiency in using hand tools and power tools safely and effectively for basic construction and mechanical duties.
• Ability to perform general cleaning tasks such as sweeping, debris removal, and maintaining orderly work areas.
• Capability to transport and move construction materials around a large jobsite in a safe and efficient manner.
• Strong ability to follow direction from supervisors and trades personnel, with a willingness to learn and take on new tasks.
• Consistently positive attitude and strong work ethic, with reliability and readiness to contribute wherever needed on site.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Preferred experience in construction or related trades, providing familiarity with jobsite practices and safety expectations.
• Comfort working in a large, multi-contractor environment and collaborating with general contractors and subcontractors.
• Basic mechanical aptitude to assist with simple mechanical tasks under guidance.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work assignments in a fast-paced construction setting.

Work Environment

The position is based on a 200+ acre active construction site for a hospital project in North Charleston, SC. The environment is fast-paced and physically demanding, with regular use of hand tools and power tools, frequent material handling, and ongoing movement around the jobsite. Work will take place in typical construction conditions, which may include exposure to weather, noise, and heavy equipment, and requires appropriate workwear and safety gear such as hard hats, safety vests, and sturdy footwear.

This is a Contract position based out of North Charleston, SC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
