This short-term Forklift Operator role supports a busy warehouse operation in Edison, NJ for a one-month project. You will spend most of your workday operating sit-down propane forklifts and paper roll clamp trucks to move, store, load, unload, and stage customer inventory, including paper rolls and plywood. The position requires a safety-focused, dependable, and detail-oriented professional who is comfortable working in a fast-paced warehouse environment and has prior experience with both sit-down propane forklifts and paper roll clamp trucks.

Responsibilities

• Operate 10,000 lb. sit-down propane forklifts to safely load, unload, stage, and transport plywood and other warehouse materials.
• Use paper roll clamp trucks to handle, move, and store large paper rolls while preventing product damage.
• Follow warehouse traffic patterns and safe material handling practices to maintain a secure work environment.
• Receive, stage, and store inbound materials according to warehouse procedures.
• Prepare outbound shipments by accurately picking, staging, and loading freight.
• Perform inventory transactions and participate in cycle counts to support inventory accuracy.
• Maintain accurate records while handling specialty products such as paper rolls and plywood.
• Adjust clamp pressure and apply proper paper roll handling techniques to protect product integrity.
• Support general warehouse operations, including loading and unloading inbound and outbound freight.
• Adhere to all safety procedures, equipment standards, and operational guidelines.
• Work efficiently in a fast-paced distribution environment to meet daily productivity and quality targets.
• Collaborate with team members and communicate effectively to coordinate material movement and workflow.

Essential Skills

• Previous warehouse experience in a distribution or material handling environment.
• At least 1 year of recent experience operating sit-down forklifts.
• At least 1 year of experience operating clamp trucks for paper roll handling or similar applications.
• Proficiency in safely loading and unloading trucks using forklifts and clamp trucks.
• Strong understanding of safe material handling practices and warehouse traffic patterns.
• Experience with inventory processes, including staging, inventory transactions, and cycle counts.
• Strong attention to detail to maintain inventory accuracy and prevent product damage.
• Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and adherence to established procedures.
• Reliable attendance and a strong work ethic in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and effectively as part of a team.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Ability to handle specialty products such as large paper rolls and plywood.
• Knowledge of clamp pressure adjustments and proper paper roll handling techniques.
• Comfort operating 10,000 lb. sit-down propane forklifts and paper roll clamp trucks.
• Bilingual communication skills are preferred.
• Ability to adapt to changing operational needs and priorities in a distribution setting.

Work Environment

The role is based in a fast-paced warehouse and distribution setting with a consistent Monday–Friday schedule from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, with overtime available as operational needs require. You will frequently operate sit-down propane forklifts and paper roll clamp trucks in an indoor warehouse environment, with occasional outdoor work when needed. The position involves regular standing, walking, loading, unloading, staging, and moving materials throughout the facility. The workplace follows established safety procedures and equipment standards and promotes a collaborative team culture that emphasizes accountability, reliability, and continuous improvement.

This is a Contract position based out of Edison, NJ.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $24.50/hr.
