Description
Our Director, Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) serves as the enterprise leader responsible for developing and executing a vision that advances a zero-incident culture across LDI. This role is responsible for creating, developing, and maintaining effective EHS programs and practices across the organization.
The Director defines, develops, and executes safety programs using a scorecard methodology, including training and OSHA compliance. The Director develops and implements strategies, policies, processes, systems, and tactics that support world-class safety and environmental performance across all manufacturing sites and LDI's corporate headquarters location.
This position will report to the Vice President Operations and is based at our LDI headquarters in New Hope, Minnesota.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead all LDI employees and contractors to achieve zero workplace safety and environmental incidents built on the principles of personal accountability, influencing behaviors, leading indicators, and a culture of active employee engagement.
- Facilitate and participate in the professional development of safety leaders throughout the organization through regular coaching, onboarding, training, and feedback.
- Coordinate with site leadership, site EHS managers, and safety committees to ensure all aspects of the company’s EHS programs and performance results work in concert and that effective leadership is exercised in each area.
- Advises plant and functional leadership teams, driving accountability for EHS performance and integrating safety into operational decision-making.
- Sets clear and measurable goals for safety performance; maintains detailed safety performance and incident data; analyzes trends, reports regularly on statistics, and ensures action plans are implemented and executed. Establishes consistent, effective processes for managing all near misses, hazard/accident investigations, and reports.
- Educate stakeholders on current regulations and codes relating to people safety, process safety, environmental compliance, security, and fire/explosion protection.
- Manage audit, inspection, and corrective action programs to provide assurance that LDI facilities comply with all federal, state, and local EHS regulatory requirements. This includes leading and performing on-site and virtual audits. Coordinate and interface with applicable external agencies, including OSHA, State Environmental Agencies, law enforcement, and consultants.
- Lead people and facility risk assessment and emergency response planning. Create a high-performing culture of risk awareness. Ensure that risk assessment includes all people, security, and facility risks. Establish a sustaining Emergency Response Program (ERP) for all locations that are responsive, effective, and provide reliable coverage.
- Establish and maintain a security program that protects people, products, and facilities from internal and external harm.
- Support company environmental sustainability efforts in a manner that promotes continuous improvement in reducing the company's environmental footprint.
- Lead and maintain the Safety Training Program for the enterprise, creating and maintaining the training curriculum and plan.
- Lead the administration of third-party electronic vendor platforms used for EHS monitoring, reporting, and compliance activities.
- Other duties, as assigned.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
- Bachelor's degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, EHS, or related field or equivalent education and experience.
- 10+ years of progressive EHS leadership responsibility in a manufacturing environment, including managing cross-functional teams and operating at a senior level to drive results.
- 5+ years of experience leading safety preferably across multiple manufacturing facilities, both union and non-union.
- Applied knowledge of environmental, health, and safety laws and regulations.
- Ability to effectively manage and delegate while achieving key results and deliverables.
- Ability to effectively read, write, and communicate in English, including strong presentation and facilitation skills.
- Strong leadership, influence and persuasion, and change management skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Must be able to travel up to 50% domestically and internationally, including travel to manufacturing sites in the United States and Mexico.
PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
- Master’s degree in safety management, industrial health and safety, or a related field.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
- Strong mentoring, training, and coaching skills.
- Strong business acumen and analytical skills, including the ability to develop, implement, and monitor metrics.
- Ability to multitask, organize, and prioritize work.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
The starting base salary range for this position is $134,155 - $167,694 per year. The compensation posted is the anticipated pay for the position at the time of the posting. We may pay above or below the posted amount based on several factors, including, but not limited to, education and/or certifications, skills, experience, or work location. Some positions may qualify for additional compensation in the form of bonuses.
