Job Description

Role Qualifications:  Must be able to perform duties associated with Sawyer job progression matrix.

Position Summary:  This position is responsible for sawing various steel parts and steel components. The operator is responsible for the daily operation of the machine in order to achieve production goals. The position requires experience with various saw cuts and familiarity with sheet-metal fabrication processes. Basic math skills, experience with reading blueprints, and using standard measuring equipment are required as well. This position performs a variety of tasks requiring basic skill, accuracy, efficiency, machine safety, and tool operation. The Operator saws parts and ensures that the parts are being produced to the specifications described or according to drawings, as well as monitors the function of the machine to be sure it functions as necessary. Be able to operate other equipment and the use of various power tools, Ironworkers, punches, sanders, sheers, and able to perform minor equipment repairs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Prepare jobs for inspection (Q.C) to ensure that they are accurate in number and quality.
• Operate forklifts to transport materials to designated shelves and racks in the storage area.
• Report any damaged items to the supervisor immediately.
• This position performs a variety of tasks requiring basic skills, accuracy, efficiency, machine safety, and tool operation.
• Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
• Understand how to use and read a tape measure.
• Assist with helper tasks. (saw basic cuts, drill or punch holes into steel shapes).
• Label all jobs with customer name, job number and site name (if provided).
• Ensure that a quality check is performed on all orders.
• Address any misprints, false quantities.
• Ensure that any product not up to the quality mark is reported to the floor supervisor.
• Responsible for the cleaning and proper organizing of the work area 10 minutes before the end of the shift as per the housekeeping procedure requirements.
• Assist in moving materials to designated staging areas by reading and interpreting job packets
• Develop saw skills and experience.

Qualification/Requirements:

• Preferred education, a high school diploma or GED or equivalent highly desired.
• Must be knowledgeable of all machine controls, calibrations, capacities, and capabilities according to manufacturer specs.
• Must have experience in the metal processing industry and strong working knowledge of metal.
• Must be proficient in the operation of all necessary equipment and use of various power tools, saws, Ironworkers, drill press, punches, torches, portable plasma, sanders, sheers, overhead crane and jib cranes and able to perform minor equipment repairs.
• Must be able to communicate and work well with others have good oral/written communication skills and decipher job order forms.
• Must be punctual and display good attendance and be able to work at least 40 hrs per week, be available to work overtime when necessary. In addition, be able to work other shifts to train and or support company needs.
• Must be able to pass forklift certification and have a valid ODL is preferred.

Physical Requirements

• This position requires Squat/kneel, bend/stoop, crawl, twist/turn, grasp, push, reach overhead, and outward frequently. Also requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs on regular basis and stand or walk up to 10 hours per day.
• Occasional work outside in various weather conditions and work near moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, and moderate to high noise levels.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $22.00 - $28.00 per hour
