Operating Room Registered Nurse

Position Summary The Registered Nurse is a member of the interdisciplinary team working in collaboration with the Physician. The RN utilizes the nursing care process consistent with their license and/or certification, including initiation of culturally competent continuum of care in inpatient, outpatient, and community settings. The RN is responsible for coordinating the interdisciplinary plan of care and ensuring its consistency with the medical treatment plan. Patient care process: Assessment – identification, gathering, and organization of subjective and objective data (physical, psychosocial, spiritual, cultural). Planning – identify actual or potential problems and desired outcomes (goals) to develop a documented plan of care. Intervention – specific interventions or orders implemented in accordance with the plan of care. Evaluation – determine the effectiveness of interventions, reassess as needed, and document required actions. This includes: Prioritization of problems relative to biophysical, psychological, environmental, self‑care, educational and social status. Identification of goals consistent with each problem. Education aligned with problems and goals to promote patient empowerment. Limited Laboratory Services – patient identification, specimen collection, sample processing, quality control testing, instrument maintenance, result reporting (including critical values), and maintenance of competency/certification. Qualifications Education / License: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred. Current RN license in New Jersey or a multi‑state license. BLS required. Valid NJ driver’s license required for Adult and Child Partial Programs. Experience: Preferred proficiency in Clinical Applications at hire; training provided with skill required within 30‑60 days. Preferred clinical experience varies by specialty (see below). Preferred Certifications: ACLS required within 6 months of assignment; ATCN or TNCC within 24 months. Minimum 8 contact hours of education annually in basic trauma assessment, intervention, and stabilization; PALS or ENPC provider status within 12 months. Additional specialty certifications (e.g., ATCN, CCRN, NRP, PALS, ENPC, CNAE, OCN) as required by unit. Preferred Specialty Experience Emergency Room – 2‑4 years medical/surgical experience; 2 years ER experience. Labor & Delivery – 2‑4 years labor & delivery experience. Neonatal ICU/Intermediate Care – 2‑4 years NICU experience. Mother/Baby (OB) – 2‑4 years mother/baby experience. Perinatology – 3 years labor & delivery experience. Operating Room – 1‑2 years OR experience; CNOR preferred. Critical Care (ICU) – 2‑4 years medical/surgical & 1‑2 years critical care experience; CCRN preferred. Medical/Surgical – 1‑2 years experience; ACLS required. Dialysis – 1‑2 years experience; ACLS required. Psychiatry – 1‑2 years medical/surgical experience; 1‑2 years psychiatry experience; MVA check required. Pediatrics – 1‑2 years medical/surgical experience; 1‑2 years pediatric experience; PALS required. Radiology – 2‑4 years medical/surgical experience; 1‑2 years interventional experience; ACLS required. Cath Lab – 1‑2 years critical care/ER/telemetry experience; 1 year cath‑lab experience; ACLS required. Trauma ICU – 1 year trauma experience; ACLS, PALS & ATCN required within 1 year. Oncology – 1‑2 years medical/surgical experience; chemotherapy experience preferred; ACLS required. Endoscopy – 2 years medical/surgical experience; 1‑2 years endoscopy/telemetry/critical care experience; ACLS required. Cardiac Diagnostic – 1‑2 years medical/surgical experience; 1‑2 years critical care experience; ACLS required. CVU – 2‑4 years critical care experience; ACLS required; CCRN preferred. PCCU – 2‑5 years telemetry experience; ACLS required. PCU – 2‑5 years telemetry experience; ACLS required. Telemetry – 1‑2 years medical/surgical experience; ACLS required. Radiation – 1‑3 years medical/surgical experience; OCN preferred. Medical Oncology Infusion – 1‑3 years oncology experience; OCN preferred; Chemotherapy and Biotherapy competency required within 6 months. PACU/SDS – 1‑3 years critical care or PACU experience; ACLS and PALS required within 6 months. Pre‑Admission Testing – 1‑3 years medical/surgical experience; none required. Acute Partial/Child – Adolescent Program – 1 year behavioral health experience; crisis intervention and prevention preferred. Bloodless Surgery – 1‑2 years medical/surgical experience; preferred. Wound Care Out‑Patient – 1‑2 years medical/surgical experience; HBO training within 1 year; ACLS required. Hammonton Satellite Emergency Department – 2‑4 years medical/surgical experience; ACLS within 6 months; basic trauma and stroke education required. Structural Heart – 2‑3 year cardiology experience. Performance Expectations Demonstrate department‑specific competencies as listed on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool. Work Environment Potential exposure to blood‑borne pathogens, hazardous substances, infectious disease, and potential injury. Physical demands: considerable reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching; extensive standing and walking including stairs; lifting 25‑50 lbs frequently and 50‑100 lbs occasionally; pushing and pulling heavy equipment. Some departments require ability to distinguish colors. Electrophysiology Lab Work Environment Similar hazards to the general work environment with additional radiation exposure. Tasks include reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing with lead wear, walking stairs, lifting weights, pushing/pulling equipment, transporting patients on stretchers unassisted, hand‑off of instruments, maneuvering in confined spaces. Unit Populations Served Bariatric Morbid Obese Adult – all comorbid illnesses & conditions. Cath Lab – cardiac/vascular conditions. Critical Care – acute medical/surgical care of various organ systems. Behavioral Health – bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, depression, psychosis. Dialysis – acute/chronic renal failure or disease. Endoscopy – chronic pain management, endoscopic procedures. Emergency Department – triage, assess, and treat all age groups. Intermediate Care – post‑surgical monitoring. Medical Surgical – diverse diagnoses requiring isolation/precautions. Telemetry – cardiac/cardiovascular, neuro, GI conditions. Telemetry/Stroke – cardiac/cardiovascular, neuro, renal, GI conditions. Wound Care – ostomy diversion surgeries, wound care, pressure sore/ulcer. Structural Heart – adults with structural heart disease.
