SANITATION INSPECTOR I

Responsibilities Receive and record complaints of violations of the garbage and trash codes; call on complainants and owners to resolve discrepancies. Conduct field inspections and surveillance in assigned sanitation district to detect violations of regulatory waste rules and regulations. Use assigned tablet to complete and document daily work; use software and applications to deliver efficient service delivery. Conduct preliminary screening of public complaints; act on routine matters and prepare cases for enforcement through court action when necessary. Investigate complaints pertaining to lot cleaning problems, abandoned property ordinances, and other violations; follow through to secure compliance by owners. Prepare and serve notices to remove existing violations; write citations when violations are not removed, and testify at hearings or in court as required. Prepare written investigative field reports of violations for submission to supervisor, including a detailed summary of daily activities. Coordinate inspection and surveillance activities with Waste Division operational supervisors to correct deficiencies of garbage and trash collection crews. Meet with complainants, individuals, or civic groups to rectify misunderstandings regarding rubbish and garbage problems. Perform other related work as required. Qualifications Minimum of 60 college credits and at least six (6) months experience in difficult public contact work related to conducting inspections, processing building plans, reviewing plans, or processing code enforcement, building, zoning, or business tax receipt inspection documentation. OR equivalent combination of education and experience beyond a high school diploma or its equivalent and six months of the required experience. Special Requirements Valid Driver's License from any state (equivalent to a State of Florida Class E); a State of Florida Driver's License (Class E or higher) must be presented before appointment and maintained valid throughout employment. Florida Association of Code Enforcement (F.A.C.E.) certification in Fundamentals of Code Enforcement required before end of probationary period and must be maintained current while employed.
