Basic Function/Position Overview :
Under the supervision of the Program Director, delivers academic tutoring to students in the 6th, 7th and 8th grades .
Principal Duties/Responsibilities:
- Review materials provided by the School Administrator and present concepts that increase and improve students’ skill sets.
- Understand and apply the principles and instructional methods taught by the Reading Specialist.
- Attend joint training, planning, and preparation sessions under the direct supervision of the Reading Specialist.
- Facilitate and assist with planning enrichment activities and workshops.
- Organize tutorial materials and supplies before each tutoring session.
- Maintain accurate student information, including attendance, test scores, progress reports, phone numbers, and addresses.
- Document student problems and concerns and communicate them immediately to the Program Director and/or Program Coordinator.
- Maintain a log/journal of tutoring activities and experiences for self-evaluation and professional development.
- Learn students’ names promptly and develop positive relationships with them.
- Conduct tutoring sessions with individuals and small groups under the supervision of the Program Director.
- Provide personal support and encouragement to help students overcome obstacles to academic success.
Specifications (/Qualifications/Requirements):
- Successful completion of at least three years of undergraduate study.
- Ability to serve as a positive role model and mentor.
- Previous work experience and/or coursework involving tutoring or mentoring elementary school-aged students.
- Ability to work part-time during afternoon and evening hours.
- Ability to work full-time during July and August for the summer program.

Environmental Conditions: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Duties are performed in a typical office environment. No unusual or adverse working conditions exist.
