Position : Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant – Pediatric Nephrology Location: Winston‑Salem, North Carolina. The role involves both inpatient and outpatient duties. Work In a Supportive & Collaborative Environment At Brenner Children’s Hospital, the Pediatric Nephrology team comprises attending pediatric nephrologists, pediatricians, a physician assistant, nurses and staff. The APP will collaborate with this multidisciplinary group and provide care to pediatric patients across various settings. Responsibilities Provide high‑quality, patient‑centered care for pediatric nephrology patients, including assessments, diagnostics, treatment planning and management of kidney disease, hypertension and electrolyte imbalances. Collaborate with nephrologists, PAs and the team to develop and implement comprehensive care plans for both inpatient and outpatient patients. Educate patients and families on kidney disease, treatment options and lifestyle modifications. Coordinate care to ensure seamless communication among multidisciplinary providers. Deliver specialty care across inpatient, outpatient, dialysis and follow‑up settings. Participate in training and involvement in procedures such as dialysis, infusion therapies, renal ultrasound and percutaneous renal biopsies. Use medical decision‑making skills to determine appropriate care plans. Order and interpret laboratory studies and diagnostic procedures; explain their necessity, preparation and anticipated effects. Perform procedural skills per department or practice guidelines. Precept students and/or medical learners as encouraged. Uphold the mission, values and cultural commitment of AHWFB. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described. Qualifications Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program; Master’s degree preferred (PA candidates). Current North Carolina Medical Board license and NCCPA certification for PA candidates. Current American Heart Association or Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) required to start. Current DEA and Department of Public Safety registration required to prescribe medication. Graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner Master’s program; Master’s degree or higher required (NP candidates). Current North Carolina Board of Nursing RN and NP license for NP candidates. Board certified as Pediatric Nurse Practitioner – Acute Care by AANP or ANCC. Current AHA or Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) required to start.
