Maintains the medical record, performs direct patient care for all types of patients.**ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:*** Accurately documents vital signs, weights, I&O, restraints, specimen collection and all other treatments. (20%)* Transcribes orders in accordance with policies and procedures subject to the approval of a licensed nurse. Asks for clarification when necessary. (30%)* Performs clerical duties related to admission, transfer and discharge, maintenance of patient activities for the records, interdepartmental communications and unit reception. (30%)* Demonstrates effective communication (verbal and written) with patients, families, physicians and other healthcare team members regarding patient care. (20%)* Performs other duties as assigned or required.**QUALIFICATIONS:**Minimum* High school diploma or GED; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.* 1 year of patient care and/or administrative experiencePreferred* Previous unit secretary experience or graduate of an approved unit secretary program.* Experience as a PCA or EMT.**Additional Employment Requirements:*** Knowledge of medical terminology.* Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate* Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate* Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate***Disclaimer:*** *The job description has been designed to indicate the general nature and essential duties and responsibilities of work performed by employees within this job title.
