Job Summary:

A Dental Assistant Lead is responsible for maintaining all clinical skills (assists dentist, sets up equipment, prepares patients for treatment, and keeps records of treatments) as well as providing oversight of the dental clinic in conjunction with the Manager or Assistant Director of Operations. These additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, management of overtime, clinic flow, contributions on reviews for assistants, and oversight of monthly assistant meetings.

Key Responsibilities:  

• Responsible for day-to-day operations of the dental clinic, supervising staff, processing timecards, and helping with supply orders when needed. 
• Assists in creating and managing dental assistant schedules and ensuring assistant coverage including call-ins and PTO coverage.
• Serves as primary contact for patient experience team.
• Create and implement daily and weekly strategies to reduce overtime in conjunction with supervisor
• Works with providers to ensure that all patient concerns are addressed in a timely manner (i.e. scheduling concerns, prescription concerns)
• Contributes and participates in employee 90-day and annual evaluations; brings staff concerns to supervisor in a timely manner
• Monitors employee behaviors and adherence to clinic policy; provides regular feedback to supervisor
• Trains new employees and works with peer trainers to ensure successful onboarding of new staff
• Proposes regularly scheduled (monthly at a minimum) team huddle agenda items and helps run said meetings.
• Assists with dental assistant extern coordination
• Works with supervisor to create competency check offs for all dental assistant staff
• Responsible for completion of daily dental scanning and distributing dental faxes when necessary
• Effectively communicates information/activities with the staff and solicits input when necessary
• Preparation of dental procedure rooms for related patient care and assisting dental provider with treatment.
• Familiar with and follows OSHA standards.
• Determines condition and quality of dental equipment and supplies; requisitions items as needed.
• Promotes effective working relationships and works effectively as part of a team to facilitate the Clinic’s ability to meet its goals and objectives.
• Attains all agreed to goals and objectives within specified time frames, as part of the Clinic’s overall mission.
• Responsibly follows the Clinic Exposure Control Plans/Bloodborne and Airborne Pathogens.
• Works to keep clinic clean and tidy daily.
• Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible and courteous environment.
• Assists supervisor in recruitment, training, onboarding, and support of new clinical staff.
• Promotes the education and development of students, interns, residents, apprentices, and other new staff by sharing expertise, responding to questions, and fostering a positive and supportive learning environment.
• All other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

• Basic Life Support (BLS) required, must obtain within first 90 days of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Prefer basic skills certification and expanded functions.
• Graduation from a dental assisting program preferred.
• Two years of experience preferred. Education can be substituted for lack of experience.
