The Child Development Department resides in the College of Health, Human Services and Nursing. We have over 900 undergraduate majors from diverse age, socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds. Our students seek careers working with children and families from birth through adolescence. We are integrated into our local community through our fieldwork courses and strive to emphasize a sense of social responsibility throughout our curriculum. Mission The Child Development program focuses on the study of individual development from conception through adolescence within diverse contexts. Students are provided with fundamental knowledge of theoretical and methodological concepts, developmental processes, and current issues in the field. We believe that child development professionals play an important role in society with a significant impact on children and families.To ensure that our students graduate as well-prepared professionals, our program rests on three fundamental elements: knowledge, skills, and integrity. We are seeking dynamic, positive, and contributive colleagues with a passion for teaching and a commitment to student success. The ideal candidate will have two or more years of teaching experience and a demonstrated ability to work effectively with learners of diverse ages, and socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds. Candidates should possess excellent communication and writing skills, initiative, and resourcefulness. The temporary faculty pool is continuously open, and positions are filled based on student enrollment and authorized funding. Candidates may need to be available to begin teaching on short notice. The Fall term begins in late August and ends in mid-December; the Spring term begins in mid-January and ends in mid-May. Opportunities for teaching during the Summer Sessions may also be available. Responsibilities Teaching undergraduates Teach assigned courses in the department’s curriculum and hold weekly office hours based on assigned teaching unit load. Qualifications Required Qualifications A Master’s degree in developmental psychology or a closely related field relevant to the curriculum. Applicants must have experience in teaching undergraduates from diverse ages, and socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds. Preferred Qualifications Prior teaching experience at the college or university level in child development or a closely related field relevant to the curriculum. A Ph.D. or extensive professional experience is preferred for teaching upper-division courses (400-level). Employment Requirement Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Salary and Benefit Information Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank.
