Technical Specialist - Aerothermal

Job Title: Technical Specialist – Aerothermal Working Pattern: Full‑time Working location: Indianapolis, IN Overview The Aerothermal teams in Engineering Technology & Safety design and validate modules in the gas turbine main flow‑path, including intake, fan, compressor, combustor, turbine, after‑burner, and exhaust systems. Responsibilities Design, analyze, and simulate compression systems (fan, compressor, inlet) components and subsystems using mean‑line, through‑flow, and CFD methods. Work with performance organization and system‑level design to define, understand, and interpret subsystem requirements and issue performance maps and bids. Interface with or develop aeromechanics and mechanical design to understand aerodynamic impacts. Plan, execute, and oversee component and subsystem “rig” tests for product and technology development. Integrate CFD simulations, experimental results, and first‑principle analyses into cohesive assessments of component and subsystem capabilities. Support the cold‑end aerodynamics discipline locally and globally with capability acquisition, methods and coding, technology plans, and participation in the community of practice. Apply continuous‑improvement principles by updating best practices, automating processes, and eliminating waste. Basic Requirements Bachelor’s degree in engineering, physics or mathematics and 5+ years of experience in the aeronautical industry, OR Master’s degree in a quality, engineering discipline or business management and 3+ years of experience in the aeronautical industry, OR PhD in a quality, engineering discipline or business management and aerospace‑related experience. Eligibility requires US citizenship. Preferred Requirements Proficiency in aerodynamics, turbomachinery, airfoil design, and CFD. Knowledge of gas‑turbine engine architecture, thermodynamics, and heat transfer. Experience in centrifugal compressor design or fan/compressor aerodynamic design. Strong communication of aerothermal concepts to technical and non‑technical audiences. Ability to collaborate in multidisciplinary, product‑focused teams.
