I understand that, if the release is statutorily required as a condition of employment, or being a volunteer, the Educational Service Center of Lorain County (ESCLC) will be provided with any additional arrest or conviction record pertaining to me entered into the files of the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification Investigation (BCI) for a period of one year following the date of the execution of this release. Firelands Local School District Background Check Codes & FAQ (Effective 9/25/2024)

What background checks do you need? Firelands always requires new volunteers, coaches, and employees to get both the BCI and FBI background checks done. If the person already has a background check from another school district, it must be both and less than 1 year old.

How long is the background check good for? Background checks are good for 5 years, and then if there have been no changes to licensure only the FBI needs to be renewed before the expiration date. If the background check expires completely, both BCI and FBI background checks will need to be done.

What if I'm already a paid employee and want to volunteer in the buildings? We can use your current background check and put you on the volunteer list.

*What if I have a volunteer background check and then want to coach or be a paid employee? You will need to get a new background check that has to go through ODE with a new code.
