Named after one of the University's most famous alumni, the galleries' mission and programming embody Paul Robeson's life‑long commitment to unfettered artistic freedom, cultural democracy, and transnationalism manifested through a network of exhibition spaces on campus, and extensive community outreach programs, education programs and an active public programs series including happenings, lectures, panels, symposia, readings, receptions, and performances. In 2017 the PRG expanded and evolved with the founding of Express Newark (EN). Posting Summary Rutgers University‑Newark (RU‑N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise is seeking a Head of Programs (Public & Education). Reporting to the Director & Chief Curator of PRG , this position will work on all aspects of the conceptualization, implementation, evaluation and coordination of education and public programs for PRG . This role has the opportunity to be part of a dynamic, evolving and culturally relevant organization. This position will be responsible for and not limited to the following: Collaborates with the Senior Programs Coordinator for EN Keeps up to day on key arts education programs and initiatives at the local, state, and federal levels, and knowledgeable about broader arts, cultural, and education policy, research, and practice Understands how to articulate the benefits of arts education to diverse audiences and develops relevant programming Demonstrates a strong knowledge of contemporary art, theories, and methods of arts education, as well as administrative skills to oversee programs Makes art accessible by assessing barriers to participation and then developing new and innovative strategies for program delivery Performs other duties as assigned FLSA: Exempt Grade: 05 Salary Details Minimum Salary: 71447.000 Mid Range Salary: 90435.000 Maximum Salary: 109422.000 Offer Information: The final salary offer may be determined by several factors, including, but not limited to, the candidate's qualifications, experience, and expertise, and availability of department or grant funds to support the position. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2024. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Additional information may be found at Union Description: Admin Assembly (MPSC) Payroll Designation: PeopleSoft Terms of Appointment: Staff – 12 month Position Pension Eligibility: ABP Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience Requires Bachelor's degree preferably in art history or a related field; or a combination of education and experience. Also requires two years of museum experience. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities A strong interest in contemporary art practice is necessary Must have demonstrated cultural competency skills and experience with diverse communities Excellent interpersonal skills, and ability to work both independently and as part of a small team are necessary Strong writing skills are needed Must have excellent interpersonal skills and a keen ability to engage and create rapport with diverse constituents Must have a commitment to inclusion, and advancing interpretation and scholarship around art and exhibitions, and developing visual literacy skills Preferred Qualifications Advanced degree in Art History, Art Education, Museum Education or related discipline is strongly preferred, or equivalent experience At least five years of professional experience in a museum's education department is preferred Drivers' License & own vehicle is preferred Equipment Utilized Required computer experience: Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite Physical Demands and Work Environment Must be able to lift 20 pounds.
