Final Filing Date: 9/17/2026 Job Description and Duties Individuals who are eligible for Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position (s). This position performs skilled carpentry work within the institution under the supervision of the Supervisor of Building Trades, C.F. Duties include constructing, repairing, and maintaining buildings, structures, doors, windows, cabinets, shelving, fences, and other institutional facilities. The position supervises and provides guidance to incarcerated workers while ensuring safety, security, and proper use and maintenance of tools and equipment. Responsibilities also include reading plans and blueprints, inspecting completed work, preparing sketches and cost estimates, ordering materials and equipment, obtaining vendor quotes, completing requisitions and work records, and preparing reports. The employee is also responsible for following departmental policies and procedures, completing required administrative duties and training, accurately reporting time, and performing other related duties as assigned. Working Conditions Effective July 1, 2025, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) was implemented. PLP 2025 requires that each full-time employee receive a 3 percent reduction in pay in exchange of 5 hours of PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through June 2027. Salaries do not reflect the recent changes. San Quentin Rehab Center is California’s oldest and best-known correctional institution, which was established on the site currently known as Point San Quentin, in July of 1852, as an answer to the rampant lawlessness in California at the time. The prison rests overlooking the bay on 432 acres and is located just 12 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge in the county of Marin. The walled prison is made up of four (4) large cell blocks (West, South, North, and East Block), one (1) maximum security cell block (the Adjustment Center), Central Health Care Service Building, a medium security dorm setting and a minimum-security firehouse.
