We are looking for a Senior Full-Stack Engineer to design, build, and operate the product experiences and services behind our AI-enabled construction estimation platform.

This is a hands-on senior engineering role with broad ownership. You will work across a modern React and TypeScript frontend, Python and Flask services, MongoDB data models, background processing, and integrations with our computer vision systems.

Our product presents engineering challenges that go beyond a typical web application. Estimators work with large, multi-page structural drawings through an interactive canvas. They review, correct, and approve the output of computer vision models across documents containing hundreds of pages and thousands of detected elements.

Building this experience requires thoughtful work across rendering performance, client-side state, data access, asynchronous processing, usability, and system reliability. You may investigate a canvas rendering issue in the morning, improve a MongoDB query in the afternoon, and help diagnose a stalled inference job before the day ends.

You will work directly with the Head of Engineering and collaborate with product, design, platform, and machine learning engineers. We are a focused team where senior engineers influence technical direction, own outcomes, and see their work reach customers quickly.

During your first year, you will help us:

• Deliver reliable product features from initial design through production operation.
• Improve the performance and usability of our interactive drawing experience.
• Make it faster and easier for estimators to review, correct, and trust model-generated results.
• Strengthen the boundaries between the web application, background jobs, and machine learning services.
• Improve data access patterns and indexing for large drawing sets and growing customer workloads.
• Expand meaningful automated test coverage across critical user and system workflows.
• Improve observability so the team can identify customer-impacting issues quickly.
• Reduce complexity in established parts of the codebase while continuing to deliver product value.
• Help define engineering practices that support secure, maintainable, and frequent releases.
• Mentor other engineers and raise the quality of technical design, implementation, and review.

• You have genuine depth in frontend and backend development. You can own a feature across both without treating either side as an afterthought.

• You care about business outcomes and user experience. You understand that technically correct software can still fail if it is slow, confusing, or difficult to operate.

• You are comfortable working in a growing product where requirements evolve and engineers participate in shaping the solution.

• You make pragmatic decisions based on customer impact, delivery risk, maintainability, and operating cost.

Key responsibilities include:

Product Engineering

• Design, build, test, deploy, and maintain customer-facing features across React, TypeScript, Python, and Flask.

• Own features through discovery, technical design, implementation, release, production monitoring, and ongoing improvement.

• Translate customer and product needs into maintainable technical solutions.

• Collaborate with product and design partners to clarify requirements, identify risks, and improve usability before implementation begins.

• Balance near-term delivery with the architectural work needed to keep the product maintainable.

Interactive Drawing and Canvas Engineering

• Build performant interfaces for reviewing and editing detection results within large structural drawings.

• Improve rendering, navigation, selection, annotation, zooming, and editing workflows within our Pixi.js-based drawing canvas.

• Profile and optimize browser performance across rendering, memory use, network activity, and client-side state.

• Design interactions that remain responsive when users work with hundreds of pages and thousands of visual elements.

• Diagnose complex issues involving rendering order, coordinate systems, event handling, browser resources, and application state.

• Help define reusable patterns for canvas tools and drawing interactions.

Frontend Architecture

• Build accessible, responsive interfaces using React, TypeScript, MUI, and MUI X Data Grid.

• Design predictable client-side state using TanStack Query, Zustand, and appropriate React patterns.

• Establish clear boundaries between server state, application state, component state, and canvas state.

• Improve component design, data-fetching behavior, error handling, loading states, and recovery experiences.

• Contribute to frontend architecture decisions, shared component standards, and code organization.

• Identify and resolve performance issues through browser profiling, measurement, and targeted optimization.

Backend Services and APIs

• Design and operate Python and Flask services that support interactive product workflows and machine learning processes.

• Create clear, secure, and maintainable RESTful APIs.

• Improve validation, error handling, authentication, authorization, and observability across service boundaries.

• Design services that handle partial failure, timeouts, retries, duplicate requests, and changing workloads.

• Troubleshoot issues across API services, background workers, databases, object storage, and external integrations.

• Contribute to the continued evolution of the platform's architecture and service boundaries.

Machine Learning Integration

• Collaborate with machine learning engineers to integrate OCR, object detection, and related inference workflows into the product.

• Translate model output into clear and correctable user experiences.

• Design interfaces and data contracts that allow models and product services to evolve independently.

• Build workflows that account for long-running inference, partial results, failed jobs, reprocessing, and model version changes.

• Improve how confidence, validation, correction, and processing status are represented to users.

• Help ensure that reruns and corrective workflows protect existing customer work.

Data and Performance

• Design and optimize MongoDB and DocumentDB data models, queries, indexes, and aggregation patterns.

• Investigate performance issues using query plans, application metrics, and realistic data volumes.

• Ensure data access patterns remain responsive as drawings, projects, and customer activity grow.

• Contribute to data migration, integrity validation, backup, and recovery workflows.

• Help enforce secure data access and tenant isolation throughout the application.

Asynchronous Processing

• Build and maintain reliable background job workflows for document processing, detection, export, and other long-running operations.

• Design for retries, duplicate delivery, idempotency, backpressure, timeouts, and partial failure.

• Make job progress and failure states visible to users and operators.

• Create safe recovery paths for stalled, failed, or partially completed jobs.

• Collaborate with platform and machine learning engineers to improve queue and worker architecture.

Quality and Testing

• Write focused unit, integration, component, and end-to-end tests.

• Use Vitest and React Testing Library for frontend testing and pytest for backend testing.

• Contribute to Cypress coverage for critical customer workflows.

• Treat tests as part of the design process, with emphasis on business-critical behavior and failure conditions.

• Improve test reliability, execution time, fixtures, mocking strategies, and maintainability.

• Participate in code reviews that evaluate correctness, security, usability, performance, and operational impact.

Delivery and Production Ownership

• Work with Docker and Docker Compose across development, testing, and production environments.

• Contribute to Bitbucket Pipelines and improve automated quality gates, build processes, and release validation.

• Help create frequent, repeatable, and observable deployments.

• Add structured logging, metrics, error reporting, and tracing where they improve
