Position Summary Director/Senior Director, Personal Lines at APCIA will evaluate and provide legal and public policy analysis of legislative, regulatory, and judicial issues related to personal lines property and casualty insurance. Coordinate APCIA’s work with insurance company members to develop public policy positions on property insurance proposals at the state and federal level. Develop materials for APCIA-related communications. Work with senior management of APCIA members and decision makers to advance APCIA priorities. Support and coordinate with other Policy, Research, and International (PRI) staff the APCIA Property and other property-related subcommittees. Represent our members and present APCIA policy and industry-related information to advance short- and long-term policy goals. The final title—Director or Senior Director—will be determined based on the candidate’s experience and qualifications. Salary Director: $133,000 to $135,000 Senior Director: $150,000 to $155,000 Principal Responsibilities Evaluate property insurance regulation and legislative proposals for their impact on APCIA members; draft wording and/or modify legislation and advocacy materials as needed. Contribute to the development of issue-oriented advocacy content for communication vehicles such as emails, websites, and social media. Work with others in the Personal Lines Department (of PRI) to facilitate meetings, including the development of agendas, briefing materials, public policy, and emerging issue discussions. Develop or coordinate personal property-related thought‑leadership documents and other written materials for consideration by the Board for public policy adoption, including policy statements, comment letters, regulatory policy drafts, and legislative policy drafts. Develop and maintain expertise in assigned technical insurance subject areas and maintain up‑to‑date information on key policy and advocacy issues. Conduct multi‑jurisdictional research on a wide variety of issues related to the property‑casualty insurance industry, with an emphasis on personal lines and property-related issues. Work with APCIA colleagues and members to develop and coordinate research and policy materials that are delivered in a timely manner and meet compliance needs of APCIA members and subscribers. Develop and maintain contacts with policymakers, regulators, and national organizations that impact property and casualty insurance outcomes through policy and ordinance changes. Represent APCIA at industry and property issue‑oriented stakeholder group meetings/forums, while maintaining positive relationships with individuals and organizations engaged in topical issues. Apprise APCIA member companies of relevant legislative and regulatory developments and guide them in the development of APCIA policy positions. Inform APCIA state and federal government affairs staff of APCIA policy positions. Additional Responsibilities Serve as staff liaison to other APCIA Committees or Subcommittees as assigned. Serve as division liaison to internal committees tasked with improving organizational productivity. Qualifications Educational Requirements: College degree; law degree beneficial. Minimum of five years (director) or seven years (senior director) related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience: Significant knowledge of research resources and legal research software such as Westlaw and LexisNexis; strong understanding of property insurance company operations from an underwriting or actuarial perspective desirable; experience with the insurance regulatory system preferred.
