YARD DUTY ASSISTANT (2353)

Under general supervision of the site administrator and/or Elementary Yard Duty Leader, the employee supervises students, monitors, supports, and controls designated areas of an elementary school campus and parking areas, and assists in ensuring the safety of students. The position may also perform other related duties as assigned. Responsibilities Provide supervision to children during non‑instructional periods. Supervise students and enforce school procedures in assigned areas such as playground, outdoor eating areas, cafeteria, indoor assembly areas, halls, restrooms, and other locations during assigned hours. Enforce school rules and safety regulations, security, discipline, and activity rules. Work closely with staff to eliminate behavior problems that occur during assigned work hours in activities such as recess, lunch, before, and after school. Escort students to various parts of the campus and assist ill students to the health office. Perform other related duties as assigned. Knowledge and Ability Knowledge of positive behavior modification strategies and techniques. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships. Ability to reinforce positive behaviors, motivate, and address inappropriate behaviors with students. Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instruction. Ability to deal firmly, tactfully, and effectively with students. Capability to lift and carry moderately heavy objects, normally not exceeding twenty (20) pounds. Education and Experience High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Experience: None required. Preferred Qualifications Written and oral proficiency in a second language. Compensation and Hours Substitute assignments are part‑time at 3.5 hours per day, paid a fixed hourly rate at the first step only. Permanent positions may be filled through examination and appraisal processes. Health and Security Requirements Prior to employment, a candidate must submit proof of freedom from tuberculosis. After an offer, a pre‑employment physical exam (district‑paid) and fingerprint clearance with the Department of Justice are required.
