Position: Director, Critical Infrastructure Instructor Development

Reports to: Sr. Director, Instructor Academy

Location: National, with occasional travel to on-premises training locations

SUMMARY

The Director, Critical Infrastructure Instructor Developmen t serves as a department lead within the Instructor Development & Quality Assurance (IDQA) team and is responsible for overseeing the training, development, readiness, and quality assurance of instructional staff supporting Per Scholas’s Critical Infrastructure programs.

This role serves as the organization's primary subject matter leader for instructor development within hands-on, lab-based technical training environments. The Director is responsible for building scalable instructor development systems, technical readiness standards, hands-on training programs, and quality assurance processes that ensure instructional excellence across Critical Infrastructure offerings while helping establish the foundation for future technical pathway expansion.

The Director directly manages a Manager of Instructional Development & Delivery and drives improvements in instructor performance through data-informed strategies, targeted interventions, classroom observations, technical skills validation, and professional development initiatives. This individual serves as the bridge between curriculum design, instructional delivery, workforce expectations, and operational execution to ensure instructors are prepared to deliver high-quality, industry-aligned technical training.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership and Team Management

  • Lead and develop the Critical Infrastructure Instructor Development function, establishing standards, priorities, and processes that support instructional excellence.
  • Directly manage and mentor a Manager of Instructional Development & Delivery, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and professional growth.
  • Serve as the primary instructional development leader responsible for building instructor capability across current and future Critical Infrastructure pathways.

Instructor Development and Readiness

  • Design and oversee instructor onboarding, training, certification, and professional development programs that prepare instructional staff for success in hands-on technical learning environments.
  • Establish and maintain instructor competency standards, readiness assessments, and Train-the-Trainer programs to ensure consistent instructional quality.
  • Assess and validate instructor technical and instructional readiness through observations, skills evaluations, coaching, and targeted development plans.
  • Develop and maintain instructor resources, guides, and support tools that promote effective delivery of lab-based and experiential learning.
  • Travel to training locations nationwide to support instructor development, quality assurance activities, program launches, and organizational priorities.
  • Deliver and support instructor onboarding programs, including Universal Basic Training (UBT), while ensuring compliance with safety, equipment, and operational requirements.
  • Facilitate instructor training, readiness activities, pilot launches, and instructional support efforts as needed to ensure successful program delivery and instructor preparedness.
  • Establish and maintain instructor readiness standards and launch readiness processes to ensure instructors are prepared to successfully support new program implementations and pathway expansions.

Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement

  • Monitor instructor performance and key program metrics, implementing targeted interventions and development strategies to improve learner outcomes.
  • Conduct instructional audits, classroom observations, and readiness reviews to ensure alignment with organizational quality standards and program expectations.
  • Identify instructional risks, performance gaps, and systemic challenges, developing scalable solutions that strengthen instructor effectiveness and learner success.

Program Support and Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Product Development, Educational Technology, site leadership, and operational stakeholders to align instructor development initiatives with program goals and workforce needs.
  • Support pilot launches, new program implementations, and pathway expansion efforts by evaluating instructor readiness and establishing development strategies.
  • Serve as a strategic partner in the design, scaling, and continuous improvement of Critical Infrastructure and future technical workforce training programs.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Experience

  • 8+ years of experience in Critical Facilities, Data Center Operations, Low Voltage Systems, Electrical Infrastructure, Building Systems, Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, Automation & Controls, Advanced Manufacturing, Facilities Engineering, or related infrastructure-focused environments.
  • 5+ years of experience leading technical training, instructor development, workforce development, apprenticeship, or technical education programs.
  • Experience managing and developing technical talent, including instructors, trainers, technicians, or technical teams.
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting complex technical systems and equipment, including electrical, mechanical, automation, controls, industrial, facilities, infrastructure, or related operational environments.
  • Experience working in hands-on, lab-based, equipment-intensive learning or operational environments.
  • Demonstrated success improving technical performance, instructional effectiveness, workforce readiness, or learner outcomes.

Critical Infrastructure Expertise

  • Strong understanding of critical infrastructure environments, including data centers, low voltage systems, critical facilities operations, building systems, industrial maintenance, automation technologies, and workforce development practices.
  • Ability to assess and validate technical competency, instructional readiness, and hands-on proficiency.
  • Experience supporting or training individuals in diagnosing system failures, interpreting technical documentation, and applying structured troubleshooting methodologies.
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into effective learning experiences for adult learners.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Industry-recognized certifications such as SACA, CMRT, NIMS, OSHA 10/30, NFPA 70E, FANUC, Siemens, Rockwell Automation, or equivalent manufacturing, maintenance, automation, or safety credentials.
  • Experience supporting instructor development, Train-the-Trainer programs, apprenticeship programs, or workforce development initiatives.
  • Familiarity with emerging technologies and AI tools that enhance instructional effectiveness, operational efficiency, and workforce training.
  • Demonstrated proficiency utilizing AI tools and large language models (e.g., Gemini, ChatGPT) for research, analysis, content development, workflow optimization, and operational efficiency.

For this role specifically, we are targeting a salary range of $90,000- $120,000/year. The salary difference is typically determined by several factors, including the geography where the selected candidate resides and alignment with qualifications and experience.

Holidays & PTO: Full-TimePer Scholas team members enjoy over 40 days of paid time off each year through a mix of holidays, vacation, and sick/personal time! All employees are eligible for Holiday pay upon hire (a total of 22 holidays annually, including a week off for Independence day and a week before the New Year ). Full-Time Benefits Eligible employees also receive 80 Wellness Hours to use for Sick, Safe, or Personal reasons and accrue Vacation at a rate of 8 hours at the beginning of every month, supporting rest, recharge, and work-life balance. Vacation accruals increase with tenure. Part-time employees are afforded time off on a prorated basis and in accordance with local requirements.

Retirement Savings: 401(k) plan with a current 100% employer match on contributions up to 6%, eligible employees are offered entry and full vesting after 90 days with the company.
