The Real Estate Accountant supports the Property Management Group in managing the financial tracking and accounting activities related to a property management portfolio. This role serves as the financial backbone of the division — handling lease accounting, tenant billing, accounts receivable follow-up, contract changes, and related reconciliations to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting. The position is responsible for daily, weekly, and monthly accounting functions and requires both technical accounting competency and strong communication skills to work across Property Management, Operations, and Legal. The ideal candidate can manage multiple priorities while meeting strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

• Serve as the system super user for the real estate billing and tracking platform, ensuring data accuracy, process consistency, and internal user support.
• Manage daily, weekly, and monthly accounting activities including reconciliations, general ledger postings, and financial reporting.
• Maintain and update tenant lease records — including renewals, rent escalations, and contract modifications — to ensure billing accuracy and complete documentation.
• Prepare and distribute monthly tenant invoices on schedule.
• Post cash receipts to the general ledger; review transactions for accuracy and completeness.
• Monitor accounts receivable aging; proactively follow up on past-due balances, NSF activity, and lease defaults; communicate directly with tenants as needed.
• Review and verify monthly mortgage and loan payments prior to GL posting.
• Ensure timely and accurate monthly financial reporting for the property management portfolio.
• Collaborate with Property Management, Operations, and Legal to verify transaction data and resolve discrepancies.
• Adhere to established deadlines, internal controls, and accounting schedules.
• Provide ad hoc financial analysis and reporting support as directed.

Required Experience

• Minimum 3 years of accounting experience; property management or real estate accounting experience strongly preferred.
• Experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP (Great Plains) is strongly preferred. Candidates with GP proficiency will be prioritized during screening.
• Experience with QuickBooks, Yardi, or similar real estate accounting platforms is preferred.
• Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Excel at an intermediate or advanced level (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, reconciliation workbooks).

Skills & Competencies

• Strong understanding of general ledger structure, financial reporting, and GAAP principles as applied to real estate or property management.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to interact professionally with tenants, internal departments, and ownership.
• Strong interpersonal and customer service orientation.
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, meet strict deadlines, and perform accurately under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Management with a concentration in Accounting, and a minimum of three years’ accounting experience.
