This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, C.M. Tucker JR. Nurse Care Center- Roddey Pavilion, 2200 Harden Street Columbia, SC 29203. As the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Institutional you will be responsible for the nursing care of residents on a unit. You will direct and supervise the Certified Nursing Assistants in giving nursing care.

Responsibilities for the Licensed Practical Nurse, Institutional:

• Administer medications, treatments and perform other nursing procedures.
• Maintain accurate and complete records of nursing care by observing residents, reporting observations to charge person, and accurately document observations.
• Make frequent nursing rounds, supervise nursing care, and evaluate and maintain a safe, therapeutic environment for residents.
• Promote optimum comfort, rest, and rehabilitative nursing care for residents.
• Assess residents and participate in resident care planning.
• Assist in coordination and evaluation of CNAs by effective assignments, supervision, and completion of evaluation and counseling.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

• Completion of a licensed practical nurse program accredited by the South Carolina Board of Nursing.
• Additional Requirements:
• Ability to lift up to thirty (30) pounds routinely, with the ability to lift fifty (50) pounds or more in an emergency
• Ability to see, hear at normal volumes, stand, walk, reach, pull, stoop, bend and climb at least two (2) flights of stairs.
• Ability to tolerate noise level and circulate in patient areas for long periods.
• Must be able to work with repetitive patient behaviors.
• May function as a charge nurse in the absence of a registered nurse.

Preferred Qualifications

• Licensure as a licensed practical nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing and at least one (1) year of nursing experience.
• Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.
