Postdoc Research Fellows – University of Maryland College Park
Postdoctoral fellow positions in Immunology and host-pathogen interactions are available in Dr. Meiqing Shi’s laboratory in the Department of Veterinary Medicine, University of Maryland College Park (UMD), located just outside Washington, DC. The Department of Veterinary Medicine at UMD is home to numerous excellent scientists in the field of human and veterinary microbiology, immunology, and infectious diseases. The department provides an excellent research environment and advanced research facilities, including BSL3/ ABSL3 suites, to support cutting-edge infectious diseases research.
The successful candidates should have a Ph.D. degree in Immunology, Microbiology, Cell biology, Molecular Biology, or related field. Candidates are expected to have experience in animal models, flow cytometry, immune cell purification and culture etc. Candidates with strong background in immunology, host-pathogen interaction, microbial pathogenesis, and infection and inflammation are particularly encouraged to apply. Qualified candidates are expected to work independently as well as in an interactive and dynamic team environment, with good and oral communication skills.
The Shi Lab has an overall research focus on host-pathogen interactions, with a particular emphasis on fungal immunology and fungal pathogenesis. The lab uses animal models, molecular and cellular biology techniques, and intravital imaging to understand how Cryptococcus neoformans interacts with the host immune system and causes inflammation and disease, and how the immune cells fight against the fungus.
