Staff Accountant

Staff Accountant (2026-2027) Primary Purpose Perform general accounting work relating to the preparation, control and administration of the district financial resources. At all times, the primary goal is to promote the support of the students, campuses and administrators of the district. Qualifications Education/Certification Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance-related field. Special Knowledge/Skills Ability to analyze and interpret financial data Ability to analyze and evaluate accounting problems, develop data, and recommend improved procedures Ability to work with staff regarding grants, activity funds, and budget Ability to use personal computer and software to develop complex accounting reports, spreadsheets, and databases Ability to work with numbers in an accurate and rapid manner Knowledge of computerized accounting systems Knowledge of governmental accounting and auditing principles established by the Governmental Accounting System Board (GASB) Effective communication and interpersonal skills, written, verbal, and the ability to communicate financial data to others Experience Minimum of two years school district experience preferred. Major Duties and Responsibilities Accounting Prepare, enter, and record receipts and disbursements of district funds. Manage, oversee and work directly with campuses regarding activity funds. Reconcile records of bank transactions. Review, analyze, interpret and reconcile various general ledger accounts. Prepare and enter journal entries and budget transfers. Prepare income, balance sheets, statements, consolidated statements, and other statements and reports. Classify, record, and summarize numerical and financial data to compile and keep financial records using journals and ledgers or computer. Review and verify accuracy of journal entries, accounting methods, and procedures. Review, analyze, interpret and reconcile variances determined for Vendor Payments. Check figures, postings, and documents for correct entry, mathematical accuracy, proper codes, and budget availability. Set up and maintain account files reflecting strong organizational skills. Assist with annual audit Review and submit reimbursements for Federal Funds. Provide guidance to Accounts Payable when necessary. Cross-train and perform back-up processes, tasks and responsibilities for Director of Accounting. Communication Interact with administrators, principals, directors, and staff to answer questions, support and provide guidance, implement changes, resolve problems and train staff regarding procedures and guidelines related to grants, budget, accounting issues and activity funds. Assist in maintaining accounting guidelines, accounting and other software procedure guides for the district. Manage and troubleshoot user issues with financial and other related software and submit cases to vendor for resolution. Train personnel as needed in the use of the accounting software. Records and Reports Record, store, and analyze information using accounting software. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required, including auditable records and financial statements. Other All other duties as assigned. Moderately proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office – Word and Excel. Knowledge of district’s accounting software system a plus. Equipment Used Personal computer, printer, copier, scanner, fax and calculator. Working Conditions Repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer. Maintain emotional control under stress.
