Intake Assessment SpecialistThe Intake Assessment Specialist (IAS) serves as the first point of contact for prospective adult learners and plays a critical role in ensuring a positive, student-centered onboarding experience. Reporting to the Director of Adult Basic Education (ABE), the IAS is responsible for conducting learner intake, administering standardized assessments (TABE, CASAS and other approved assessments), determining educational functioning levels, recommending appropriate class placement, and supporting learner success upon registration.Responsibilities include conducting intake interviews and student advising with determining eligibility for Adult Basic Education, GED®, English Language Services, and workforce training classes or programs; coordinating and facilitating orientation, registration, intake, and assessment sessions; administering, monitoring, and interpreting assessment scores and other approved standardized assessments in accordance with Maryland Department of Labor policies; determining appropriate educational functioning levels and recommending appropriate instructional placement and class modality; coordinating the managed recruitment process, including student scheduling and waitlist management; maintaining accurate learner records and documentation for the Management Information Specialist to report in LACES and institutional databases; monitoring data quality and assisting with implementation of the program's Data Quality Plan; communicating with instructors regarding learner placement, attendance, academic progress, and instructional support needs; coordinating referrals to tutoring, digital literacy services, career pathways, workforce programs, disability support services, and community resources; working collaboratively with the Instructional Specialist (IS) to support learners with disabilities, English language learners, and other special populations; managing the Adult Basic Education/ GED Testing Center, including scheduling, compliance, inventory, ordering supplies, and storage of testing materials; supervising and training Testing Center staff and ensuring compliance with standardized testing protocols; attending Maryland Department of Labor Intake Assessment Specialist meetings, Communities of Practice, and required professional development; providing training and technical assistance to instructors and program staff regarding assessment policies and procedures; assisting with recruitment, outreach, student orientations, and community engagement activities; preparing reports related to enrollment, attendance, student No Show, assessment outcomes, measurable skill gains, and learner performance; and performing other duties as assigned to support Adult Basic Education program operations.Required qualifications include a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Adult Education, Education, Counseling, Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, Public Administration, or a closely related field; minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in adult education, workforce development, higher education, student services, or a related field; experience conducting student intake, advising, educational assessments, or academic placement; experience administering or learning standardized assessments such as TABE, CASAS, GED Ready®, or similar assessments; knowledge of adult learning principles and student-centered practices; strong customer service, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills; demonstrated ability to work effectively with culturally and linguistically diverse populations; proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and database or student information systems; ability to analyze data, maintain accurate records, and ensure compliance with federal and state reporting requirements; and ability to work occasional evenings and weekends based on program needs.Preferred qualifications include a master's degree in Adult Education, Higher Education, Counseling, Educational Leadership, Human Services, or a related field; experience working in an Adult Education and Family Literacy Act (AEFLA) or Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA)-funded program; current TABE Administrator Certification or the ability to obtain certification within six months of hire; experience using DRC, Banner, CANVAS or other student information systems; experience supervising testing center operations or assessment staff; knowledge of Maryland Department of Labor - Adult Education policies and performance measures; experience with student retention initiatives, measurable skill gains, and data quality monitoring; and bilingual proficiency (Spanish or another language commonly spoken in Baltimore) is preferred.
