Director, Executive Protection - Foster City, CA

Role Responsibilities Support operational execution of Gilead’s Executive Protection Program, providing close protection and global security support to senior executives. Lead planning and implementation of executive protection strategies using protective intelligence assets and briefings to identify and mitigate threats. Serve as a trusted advisor during executive travel, high‑profile events, and crisis situations; protect employees, facilities, physical assets, and sensitive information. Conduct travel/work/residential security advances including threat and vulnerability risk assessments (airports, hotels, assigned venues). Provide travel safety/security briefings to executives and flight crews, including foreign travel to high‑risk locations. Coordinate special services for major events (e.g., Annual Stockholder Meetings, Board Meetings, conferences). Develop and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders; coordinate with legal, HR, corporate communications, and corporate security leadership; liaise with federal, state, and local law enforcement as needed. Oversee and coordinate third‑party security service providers for offices, residences, vehicles, transportation routes, and event venues. Conduct intelligence reviews and pre‑trip analysis; monitor local/geopolitical threats; integrate with Corporate Security GSOC and intelligence teams. Be flexible for short‑notice domestic/international travel, including irregular hours. Identify and assist with procedures/process improvements for consistent security/protection. Demonstrate executive presence, high‑pressure decision‑making, confidentiality, discretion, and sound judgment. Basic Qualifications Bachelor’s degree and 12 years’ experience OR Master’s degree and 10 years’ experience OR PhD and 8 years’ experience. Preferred Qualifications / Skills 12+ years law enforcement; former federal/protection experience preferred (Secret Service, State Department, FBI). LEOSA (HR 218) credentials. Ability to obtain Federal Air Marshal Service ASO certification. Valid passport; international travel ability (~30%). Valid driver’s license; safely operate motor vehicles. Corporate security team experience; scheduling/logistics/personnel management; use/performance metrics. International security experience; comfortable with senior executives/board/government reps. Familiarity with EP technology (mobile security apps, secure communications, tracking tools). Excellent planning and analytical skills; long hours, occasional weekends/holidays. People leadership experience; experience building/launching a security program. Event security management; vendor partner experience; strong decision‑making (crisis/non‑crisis); proven stakeholder collaboration.
