About the Organization The Sweet Bye N Bye is owned and operated by Robert and Angela Estrada RN, BSN. Their goal is to provide excellent care in an intimate setting where residents will feel like part of a family. They have a combined 45 years of RN experience and over 20 years of combined experience owning/operating adult foster homes and residential care facilities. Angela was awarded the credential Registered Nurse-Board Certified in Gerontology. Position: Cook Summary To be responsible for preparation and serving of foods for residents, maintaining high standards of food preparation, handling and storage. Generally to be part of a team effort for the overall effective operations of the facility. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Prepares and serves foods indicated on planned menus, following standardized recipes and diet manual guidelines, using standard portion sizes, making substitutions as needed. Prepares foods according to prescribed sanitation standards. Prepares foods for modified and therapeutic diets and is responsible for the content and serving of same. Responsible for serving meals at scheduled times, planning and organizing food preparation appropriately. Performs routine record keeping duties, to assist with compilation of department reports. Performs clean‑up duties as needed for each meal service. Uses equipment and materials carefully, and in a safe manner, following correct operation and cleaning procedures. Follows cleaning schedules and sanitation check lists. Checks and records freezer and refrigerator temperatures. Reports all repair and maintenance needs to administrator. Performs other duties as assigned which may include some caregiving. Works as part of a team to ensure good service is delivered at all times. Follows written and verbal instruction. Preferred experience in health care food service and familiarity with therapeutic diet menus. Alert, accurate and dexterous with food and equipment; works under stress, stands, walks, lifts, and stoops most of the day. Cooperates with others, independent in planning work and method of preparation. Understands philosophy of residential care facilities; meets safety and sanitation standards. Protects confidentiality of resident information. Maintains neatness and cleanliness; displays a cheerful and positive attitude. Assists in new employee orientation upon request. Greet and meet with new resident after move‑in for dietary likes and dislikes. Visits residents in the dining room after every meal to obtain feedback on satisfaction or changes needed. Prepares coffee, busses tables, operates dishwashers, sets tables, serves in dining room. Maintains general knowledge of special diets (diabetic, etc.). Performs emergency responses with team members and reports changes in resident conditions via staff notes. Answers the phone in a timely and professional manner and records messages accurately when appropriate. Reports verbally and in writing on resident abilities and potential changes to the service plan through progress notes and shift notes. Assists other departments to ensure a safe working environment. Other duties as required from time to time ensuring good continuity of service. Education and/or Experience High school diploma or GED; or one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Language Skills Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before small groups of residents, family, or staff. Mathematical Skills Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages. Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Professional Expectations Present oneself in an orderly and professional manner. Willingness to adapt to changing demands of this position. Be helpful and polite to residents, understanding their needs and respecting privacy and personal property. Keep areas of responsibility clean, neat, and organized. Cooperate with and be polite to all staff members. Dependable and punctual. Working knowledge of RCF philosophy and resident rights and responsibilities. Have an understanding of The Sweet Bye N Bye’s code of conduct. Physical Demands Frequent standing, use of hands and fingers, occasional walking, reaching with hands and arms, climbing or balancing, occasional sitting, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Frequently lift or move up to 10 lbs and occasionally up to 25 lbs. Occasionally lift or move residents weighing more than 100 lbs with appropriate assistance equipment. Vision requirements include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Work Environment The noise level is usually quiet with occasional periods of moderate noise.
