Pediatric Gastroenterologist/Transplant Hepatologist

Position Overview

The Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at the University of Utah School of Medicine has an immediate opening for a Pediatric Gastroenterologist/Hepatologist with advanced training and/or experience in Pediatric Transplant Hepatology. The Pediatric Gastroenterologist/Hepatologist will be part of a clinical team in the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition in the Department of Pediatrics, University of Utah School of Medicine. This physician will provide outpatient and inpatient care, focusing primarily on transplant hepatology and liver disease, in addition to general pediatric gastroenterology and clinical outreach activities at satellite clinics.

Clinical activities are carried out at Primary Children’s Hospital (PCH), a 289‑bed Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. In 2024, a second PCH campus opened in Lehi, Utah. The Pediatric Liver Care Center serves the largest geographic catchment area in the United States, with patients from Utah, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Wyoming and New Mexico. The liver transplant program has performed more than 300 liver transplants since its inception, with over 30 in the last two years. The adult affiliated liver transplant programs (the University of Utah and Intermountain Healthcare) have performed about 470 liver transplants since 2024, with an active and collaborative transition program between all centers.

The Division currently has 19 physicians, six advanced practice clinicians, 12 registered nurses and transplant coordinators, and five pediatric GI fellows and one transplant hepatology fellow. It offers all pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition clinical services, including therapeutic/interventional endoscopy, a gastrointestinal Motility Disorders Center, a multidisciplinary IBD program, a Cystic Fibrosis Center, a Food Allergy and Eosinophilic Disorders Clinic, a Fontan care program, an Esophageal and Airway Treatment Center, a Feeding and Swallowing Center, a comprehensive nutrition center, an Aerodigestive Clinic, a Home Enteral Feeding Transitions program, and a multidisciplinary Colorectal Center.

Qualifications

• Minimum of one year of advanced training in pediatric transplant hepatology, or equivalent experience
• Completed a Pediatrics Residency and a Pediatric Gastroenterology Fellowship
• Board Certified in Pediatric Gastroenterology
• Board Eligible or Board Certified in Pediatric Transplant Hepatology
• Successful completion of a faculty appointment in the Department of Pediatrics on the Clinical or Tenure track
