Communications and Event Specialist

Full-Time | 12-month contract | Non-Bargaining 

Position Overview

Hemlock Public School District is seeking a talented communicator, organizer, and relationship builder to serve as our Communications & Event Specialist.

Through a shared-service partnership with Richland Township, approximately 25% of the employee's time will be dedicated to supporting Township communications, events, community engagement, and special projects. The employee will remain an employee of Hemlock Public School District and, for Township-related assignments, will work collaboratively with designated Township leadership.

Working under the direction of the Superintendent, the Communications & Event Specialist will collaborate closely with the District Communications Specialist, administrators, staff, students, families, community partners, and Township leadership to help tell the Hemlock story, strengthen community connections, and create exceptional experiences.

This is a hands-on position for someone who enjoys turning ideas into action. The successful candidate will be able to manage details, coordinate people and projects, create engaging content, and provide outstanding support while understanding the importance of working within established organizational direction and protocols.

Essential Duties:

Help Hemlock tell our story, invoke strong community engagement, and provide administrative support. 

• Support the District's communication efforts under the direction of the Superintendent and in collaboration with the District Communications Specialist.
• Identify, gather, and develop stories highlighting students, staff, programs, partnerships, accomplishments, and opportunities.
• Create and assist with social media, website, newsletter, publication, presentation, invitation, program, and other communication content.
• Photograph/Video and document District activities, programs, events, and accomplishments.
• Assist with maintaining timely, accurate, engaging, and consistent communications across District platforms.
• Support communication campaigns associated with District initiatives, programs, facilities, events, recognitions, and community engagement.
• Assist with preparing press releases, talking points, presentations, correspondence, and other materials for review and approval.
• Maintain appropriate confidentiality and follow established District communication protocols.
• Coordinate selected District events from planning through completion.
• Develop event plans, timelines, checklists, communication materials, and logistical arrangements.
• Coordinate invitations, guest lists, RSVPs, programs, signage, seating, hospitality, volunteers, vendors, registration, and related details.
• Support ribbon cuttings, dedications, open houses, community events, employee recognition activities, Performing Arts Center activities, athletic and fine arts events, staff gatherings, and other District programs.
• Work with community organizations, business partners, donors, alumni, volunteers, and other stakeholders in support of District-sponsored activities.
• Provide professional hospitality and event support for District guests and partners.
• Coordinate event follow-up, recognition, communication, photography/video, and documentation.
• Help identify opportunities to strengthen connections among the District, Township, local businesses, civic organizations, families, and the greater Hemlock community.
• Participate as a member of the District administrative team.
• Support implementation of District priorities and strategic initiatives as assigned.
• Manage special projects under the direction of the Superintendent or designee.
• Research, organize, and prepare information for District initiatives.
• Develop presentations, reports, correspondence, spreadsheets, and other professional materials.
• Maintain project timelines and assist with follow-through across departments and buildings.
• Coordinate projects involving multiple departments, buildings, agencies, or community organizations.
• Attend administrative meetings and planning sessions as assigned.
• Provide project and organizational support to members of the administrative team.
• Perform other duties consistent with the position and organizational needs.

Required Qualifications:

A successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:

• Ability to anticipate needs, solve problems, and follow projects through to completion.
• Strong technology skills and the ability to learn new platforms quickly.
• Experience with social media, digital communications, photography/video, graphic design, Canva, website content, event planning, public relations, or related areas.
• Ability to work effectively with multiple organizations and leaders while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
• Flexibility and willingness to work outside the traditional workday.
• A commitment to serving students, staff, families, residents, and the greater Hemlock community.

Education and Experience:

• A bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, marketing, business, event management, education, public administration, or a related field is preferred. 
• Relevant professional experience and demonstrated skills may be considered in lieu of a specific degree. 
• Experience in communications, public relations, marketing, event coordination, project management, community relations, education, local government, or a related field is preferred. 

 

Salary: $45,000 - $55,000 with a comprehensive benefits package
