As a key member of the leadership team, you will oversee all aspects of transportation operations, including fleet performance, workforce management, customer experience, financial results, safety, compliance, and business development. What You'll Do as Transportation VP of Operations:

Strategic Leadership

• Develop and execute operational strategies that support company growth, profitability, and market expansion.
• Provide executive oversight for all transportation and fleet operations.
• Establish performance objectives and operational benchmarks across departments.
• Align operational initiatives with overall business goals and strategic priorities.
• Lead change management efforts that drive innovation and continuous improvement.

Operational Excellence

• Oversee day-to-day transportation operations to ensure efficiency, reliability, and service quality.
• Identify opportunities to improve workflows, reduce costs, and enhance productivity.
• Implement best practices that improve operational performance and scalability.
• Ensure service commitments are consistently achieved across all operational functions.
• Drive accountability through measurable performance metrics and operational reporting.

Leadership & Team Development

• Lead, mentor, and develop regional and local leadership teams.
• Foster a culture focused on performance, engagement, teamwork, and accountability.

• Support recruitment, retention, and workforce planning initiatives.

Fleet & Transportation Management

• Oversee fleet utilization, asset management, maintenance performance, and operational readiness.
• Ensure transportation services operate efficiently while maximizing fleet productivity.
• Monitor fleet-related costs and identify opportunities for optimization.
• Partner with maintenance and operations teams to improve vehicle reliability and uptime.
• Support strategic planning related to fleet growth and expansion initiatives.

Safety, Compliance & Risk Management

• Promote a culture where safety remains the highest operational priority.
• Ensure compliance with transportation regulations, company policies, and industry standards.
• Oversee safety programs, driver training initiatives, and risk mitigation strategies.
• Review operational incidents and implement corrective actions when necessary.
• Maintain readiness for audits, inspections, and regulatory reviews.

Financial Performance

• Manage operational budgets and financial performance objectives.
• Analyze operational and financial data to identify opportunities for growth and improvement.
• Drive cost-control initiatives while maintaining service excellence.
• Support forecasting, budgeting, and long-term financial planning efforts.
• Ensure operational decisions contribute to overall profitability and sustainable growth.

Qualifications of a VP of Operations:

Required Experience

• 7+ years of senior leadership experience in transportation, logistics, operations, fleet management, or a related industry.
• Proven experience leading large-scale operations and multi-functional teams.
• Demonstrated success improving operational performance, customer satisfaction, and financial results.
• Strong business acumen and strategic planning capabilities.
• Experience managing budgets, financial performance, and growth initiatives.
• Exceptional communication, leadership, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to lead organizational change and drive continuous improvement.

Preferred Experience

• Executive leadership experience within transportation, mobility, logistics, fleet services, or passenger transportation.
• Experience managing large fleets and geographically dispersed operations.
• Knowledge of DOT regulations, compliance requirements, and transportation industry best practices.
• Bachelor's degree in Business, Operations Management, Logistics, Transportation, or a related field.
• MBA or advanced degree preferred.
