Plumber

Position Summary Maintenance, installation and repair of plumbing systems and components on existing building systems and components. Required Licenses and Certifications A valid North Carolina Driver’s License or ability to obtain one prior to the start date. Ability to acquire a back flow certification within the first year of employment. May also be asked to earn Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification within the first year of employment as needed. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis. Qualifications Ability to perform plumbing trade at the journey level. Working knowledge of state building and plumbing codes. Ability to read and comprehend complex blueprints and plumbing schematics. Demonstrated journey‑level competencies in maintenance, repair, replacement, and installation of facility components. Preferred experience working on a college campus, city/county school system, military base, or municipal/state‑funded maintenance and/or public works department. Ability to follow instructions, partner with others as needed, and work independently with minimal supervision. Willingness to respond to campus emergencies when called. Special Physical/Mental Requirements High degree of hand/eye coordination and hand manipulation; ability to climb ladders and scaffolding; ability to move objects weighing at least 40 lbs. or more; and ability to work for extended periods of time with hands above head. Position Schedule and Work Requirements Evening work occasionally, night work occasionally, on‑call occasionally, overtime occasionally, shift work, valid NC Driver’s License required, weekend work occasionally.
