Sterile Processing Tech III- Weekend Days

Job Summary MUSC is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to join our team in providing critical care to procedural areas across our healthcare enterprise. Sterile Processing Technicians ensure procedural equipment consistently meets the highest quality and safety standards, and is ready for use by all areas across the healthcare enterprise. This position receives and processes incoming supplies and equipment, performing cleaning and sterilizing duties, and is an integral part of the daily operation of all units. Key Responsibilities Maintain adequate inventory for assembly of instruments and equipment Perform and participate in the decontamination and cleaning of all instrumentation received, from all units according to established standards and procedures Prepare case carts and trays for decontamination and load them into washer and/or sterilizer as prescribed procedure Operate index washers, cart washers, ultrasonic cleaners and manually clean instruments and equipment as prescribed Inspect instruments for cleanliness, proper function, and breakage before assembly Use appropriate containers, wraps or pouches according to instrument size Sterilize instruments and surgical trays following prescribed policies and procedures Run tests on sterilizers and document that all parameters have been met Use chemicals appropriately and observe necessary PPE Assist in expediting OR schedule, assembling and distributing case carts accurately and timely Travel between sites as needed based on departmental needs Qualifications High school diploma or GED and certification through CRCST‑HSPA or CBSPD Minimum of 2 years sterile processing experience, preferably in a hospital or surgical setting Successful completion of the department’s internal written and practical exam, and meeting required performance and productivity standards, is required to attain and maintain Sterile Processing III status Physical Requirements Mobility & Posture: Standing, sitting, walking continuous; climbing stairs infrequent; working indoors continuous; working outdoors infrequent; from elevated areas frequent; confined spaces frequent; kneeling infrequent; bending at waist continuous; twisting at waist frequent; squatting frequent; manual dexterity & strength: frequent pinching; continuous gross motor use; firm grasping; fine manipulation; reaching overhead frequent; lifting force: up to 25 lbs overhead infrequent; exert up to 50 lbs force frequent Vision & Sensory: Maintain corrected vision 20/40 continuous; color discrimination, depth perception, peripheral vision, hearing acuity continuous; tactile sensory function continuous; olfactory function continuous Work Environment & Conditions: Effective stress management continuous; rotating shifts frequent; overtime frequent; latex‑safe environment continuous EEO Statement The Medical University of South Carolina is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
