Executive Director, Search and Evaluation Oncology

AstraZeneca seeks an Executive Director to lead search and evaluation of external oncology innovation opportunities. This senior strategic role manages deal-making across the R&D lifecycle, identifying and assessing partnerships that strengthen the oncology pipeline.

Responsibilities

Lead scientific and strategic aspects of business development opportunities from engagement through execution
Maintain external market perspective across academia, biotech, pharma, and venture capital ecosystems
Translate external developments into actionable recommendations with patient benefit and strategic fit analysis
Develop executive-ready assessments and business cases for governance bodies and senior leadership
Coach S&E colleagues and cross-functional contributors on scientific rigor, collaboration, and business judgment

Requirements

Advanced degree (BSc or above) in science or clinical field with 10+ years oncology experience
Deep expertise in oncology biology, drug discovery, and clinical development
Extensive pharmaceutical or biotechnology business development and transaction experience
Strong cross-functional leadership and complex diligence team management capabilities
Executive-level communication and influencing skills with senior stakeholders
Established credibility and network within oncology, biotech, pharma, or academic communities
Understanding of business development practices including valuation, risk assessment, and negotiation
