Labor and Delivery Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: L&D Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: RN License required Certifications: Current NRP and BLS required Must-Have: Current Intermediate Fetal Heart Monitoring experience L&D experience within the previous 2 years Description: This is a Labor and Delivery unit. The unit has 16 LDR beds, 3 ORs, and 3 Triage rooms. There are approximately 70 staff members on the unit. Staffing on day shift includes 1 charge nurse, 12 RNs, and 2-3 surgical techs. Night shift includes 1 charge nurse, 6-7 RNs, and 1 surgical tech. Patient ratios are aligned with AWHONN guidelines and may vary between 1:1, 2:1, or 3:1 for low acuity. Equipment used includes Novii monitors, iMobile, headsets, and pass-through skin-to-skin C-section drapes. The unit also utilizes deep soaker tubs, light therapy, and aroma therapy. The Electronic Medical Record systems in use are CPN and Meditech. Typical procedures performed include labor, delivery, recovery, triage, antepartum care, and circulating for C-sections. Nurses provide first-hour newborn care, excluding admission assessments, eyes, and thighs. Breastfeeding assistance is also offered. Candidates are sought who can contribute to the cultural diversity of the unit. The dress code includes navy blue scrubs and closed-toe shoes. Tattoos and piercings should be covered while on duty. The unit operates with in-house 24/7 hospitalist and midwife coverage, anesthesia, and neonatal support. The unit has received recognition for outstanding performance in labor and delivery. Awards include recognition for excellence in labor and delivery as well as five-star ratings for vaginal and C-section deliveries.
